Hi I’m in eight grade and applying to St Marks School and it’s my top choice. I was hoping to hear about how competitiveit is to be accepted and about what an average admitted student looks like grades, SSAT and extracurricular wise. Thanks
Perhaps @buuzn03 will chime in. Her son just started at St. Mark’s.
@ChoatieMom you are always on top of things!!! Thanks…yes, @yellowcroc I can PM you with some info more specific to my DS. But in general, just in case there are others wondering…SMS is very small. They only accept 67 III formers (9th graders) each year and 13 of those (max) are day students. So, that in itself makes for a more competitive selection process. They didn’t give a lot of info on their fact sheets at revisit day, but I’ll relay what I know. They accepted 18% of the applicants this past year. Average SSAT was low 90s. I’m so glad someone is asking about SMS! Even though it’s part of St Grottlesex and in the ISL, it seems to be a lesser publicized/talked about school…but it was one of my DS’s top choices! And so far, we couldn’t be more thrilled with our choice!
If you truly have your heart set on going to boarding school and not just St. Marks, you should defiantly apply to more schools and cast a wide net. Have you already thought about/are planning on applying to more schools than just St. Marks
I agree. Definitely look at some other schools that may have similar characteristics as what you’ve found in St Marks. DS applied to 11 schools, so we can share with you our thoughts on which ones seemed more compatible, but a lot of that will be personal. I PMd you!
