This is for a St. Mary's College student or someone who's been there--is it true that some students go to class barefoot at St. Mary's? I was just curious, because I heard a rumor to that effect and it sounded really cool.

Thanks!

I have seen kids walking barefoot but don’t know if they attend classes that way. I have seen classes taught outside on good weather days. I have seen lots of flip flops. I think some of the older walkways were more grassy. Now they are using more hard surfaces. This college is on the river and is very pretty. Take a tour and see for yourself.

danrhino, you’ve peaked my curiousity. You’ve posted two comments on collegeconfidential, which were the identical question, posed to two different college forums.

momof3greatgirls’ advice was best, you should plan a visit to each of the colleges. Goucher and St. Mary’s are just 2.5 hours away from each other. You might be able to plan a visit to both in one day, one morning/on afternoon.

Good luck in your search!

I’m a current student here, and I can tell you and anyone reading this post: YES.
People walk around barefoot all the time, AND they attend class barefoot. If not barefoot, many people will opt for the shoeless shoes–the things that look like feet gloves, with individual toes built in. They call them “artificial callouses.”

But seriously, my orientation leader spent the entire few days barefoot, and we walked EVERYWHERE, on and off campus. I also have lots of friends who come to class barefoot, saying it keeps true to the campus saying: “Keep St. Mary’s Weird.”

So yeah. Barefoot’s a huge thing.
