We know that St Olaf has a great music and choral program, as well as theater. But how about dance? Here are some CC posts from people wanting to know more about the dance dept. Maybe their requests for info will be more accessible on a separate thread.

Is the focus modern, international, ballet?

How are the instructors?

The studios?

The classes for the major/minor?

Here are the few comments I have found on CC:

Finally it came time for the dance audition. The whole thing was only two hours and there were no solos. I was thinking my daughter wouldn't be too thrilled, since she generally feels that the solo is a strong area for her. But, she came out and said it was the best audition experience yet (not so much that she thinks she has the best chance at winning the scholarship, but just in enjoying the experience). St. Olaf is now her favorite dance department.

I don't know anything about the other arts scholarships, but any prospective student can audition for the dance scholarship, so it's not by invitation only. The student just needs to send in a form, a dance resume, and a dance teacher recommendation, as well as auditioning in person (or by sending a DVD). Apparently one can even get the scholarship as a non-major (though I hope they give some preference to those who intend to major in dance).

I was interested to know what your daughter thought of the dance dept. at St. Olaf; my daughter hopes to major in dance and has a strong ballet background but has not had a chance to visit. Performance opportunities?
