High school senior here. I'm applying to St. Olaf EA. Anyone out there go to St. Olaf, or is anyone else applying?

applying regular decision.
oh man its cold there right now!!!! :)

I'm a freshman at St. Olaf majoring in piano performance and mathematics. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

How are you finding the transition to MN from the east coast? How are things socially? What would a typical weekend at St. Olaf be like? Do many students go home on the weekend?

Thank you.

st. olaf is my first choice by far, and I'm all the way out in Oregon. It's an amazing place. I got a 2290 on my SATs and I'm a little high on their academic scale, but what has drawn me to St. Olaf is the amazing community, music, art, and spirituality. I'm excited for the cold!

I find the franticness of these forums a little depressing. It seems that teenagers (and their obsessive parents) sometimes forget that college is a match to be made, not a prize to be won. Maybe the east coast is just more uptight than us Pacific Northwesterners.

Anyways, St. Olaf is excellent. Im excited for next year!

I'm pretty sure I'm applying to St. Olaf EA.

Yup. i applied EA. It's the way to go. St. Olaf has awesome financial aid if you apply early.

Bump...please keep adding.

D applied EA. She loved everything about the school and her visit was off the charts. She just received word that she was accepted EA at Lawrence so either way she'll be happy but I think St. Olaf is her first choice. As I recall Feb 1 is the notification date for EA at St. Olaf.

I'm a freshman at St. Olaf right now, and I absolutely love it. I'm a music major, playing clarinet in the top band, and it's been the best thing about coming here so far. There's a real sense of cameraderie in all of the ensembles (especially the highest of each, St. Olaf Choir, St. Olaf Band, and St. Olaf orchestra) every student wants to be there and is willing to put in the effort to show they earned their spot. I'm loving it here, if anyone has any specific questions feel free to post here or PM me.

Exactly how competitive IS the St. Olaf Choir? Do you have any idea how many audition and how many are accepted?

hey i posted the wrong sat score. i got a 2120. the 2290 is my superscore but i don't think olaf takes that.

I visited Saint Olaf earlier this March, and the campus is absolutely gorgeous. The buildings look like something out of Harry Potter, and, because the campus is located on a hill, there's sledding on all sides. The new science complex is going to be awesome, and the students there seem genuinely nice.

Um ya ya.

The Saint Olaf Choir is very competitive, but I hear is a fantastic experience. I am currently in Manitou, the first-year girl's choir, yet I did not audition for Ole Choir (the nickname for the St. Olaf Choir) because of my ambitions to study abroad junior year. Once you are accepted into Ole Choir, you are locked into place for the remainder of your years at St. Olaf. Therefore, studying abroad is not possible while you are a member. However, there are two other rigorous major choirs at St. Olaf - Chapel and Cantorei -that offer a rewarding choral experience after your first year.
