How is the city? Is it a fun place to live? Are there a lot of internship opportunities? Also, is the Minnesota cold just annoying or is it unbearable? Thanks!

Hey!!
I actually just happened upon your post--I'm not even applying to Macalester!
I live in St. Paul, or at least in the suburbs. I don't know if you live in MN right now, but its a great place to live!! Especially the area that Macalester is in. Summit and Grand Ave. are well known for being awesome! Even as a high schooler, I've gone down there to hang out at the coffee shops and stuff like that. (I was the only high schooler there, so don't be worried that they're swarming the place).
As far as internships go, the Twin Cities is home to Medtronic, 3M, Gilette, Pillsbury, and other big names, so I'm sure there's plenty of opportunity.
The twin cities is also great culturally, and this may sound suprising, but we have a GREAT local music scene. The number of theatres per capita is second to New York City as well.
I could go on and on--I love it here!

Well..then there's the cold...hahaha! I'm not going to lie, it's REDICULOUSLY freezing here in the winter months. But hey, we make the best of it. Winter sports like hockey, ice fishing, cross country skiing are huge. I guess it really depends on where you're from. If you live in say, New Mexico, I might be a little concerned for you, but otherwise, you'll live. It actually will make for a healthy immune system, if that's any consolation. Also, it's a dry cold, not a damp one, such as out east, so that makes it not as bad.

So basically, yeah it's FRIGID, but it really depends on what is most important to you for colleges.
If you went to Macalester, I can guarantee you'd have a great experience at the school and as a Minnesotan.

Writing this has made me all nostalgic for Minnesota, because I'm probably going away for college! tear

good luck!

this might sound kind of dumb, but because of the cold, it makes it fun to have cute mittens, scarves and hats!!
Coats are a fetish of mine as well! Because of the changing seasons, it makes outerwear really fun!

PrairieFlower- thanks so much for your answer! I am a junior now and I'm from New England (so I do know something about the cold). I love everything about Macaelster... except, perhaps, the cold. Anyway, St. Paul sounds great, and thanks again.
