St. Paul's School Concord NH

Ok, I have a much better understanding of the dress code at this point. Thanks so much, @doschicos!

One more question ā€“ would a shoe like this be formal enough for classes in the fall/spring?

Definitely, @AECDH20! Nice kicks.

Sorry again for asking so many question! How do students iron their clothing? Do you have to get laundry service to get clothing ironed?

My kids didnā€™t use the laundry service. They have irons and boards in the dorms. Iā€™m sure they went wrinkled quite often  saving the ironing for more formal things than day to day.

Thanks! Did your boys have one, two, or three jackets for seated meals etc.?

Thinking about the rain forecasts / hurricanes and all of the water on the SPS campus - do areas of campus flood?

Started out with one navy blazer as a 3rd former. Had several by the time he was a senior.

SPS has had issues with flooding, yes, but theyā€™ve done some mitigation work since the last major flood to hopefully help prevent such major flooding from occurring again.

@doschicos Thanks for posting that link!

SPS is a beautiful campus- but make sure your kids bring shoes that can get muddy!

May everyone have a healthy and successful school year!

Is there a facebook or other group for parents? Iā€™ve searched but canā€™t seem to find anything. Please feel free to PM . Thanks!

Not to my knowledge. How did your sonā€™s move-in go, @HMom16?

@doschicos Move in went smoothly. We met so many students, it was fun. My son and his roommate have a very large room and, although it doesnā€™t appear they will be friends, I think their living habits seem similar. I like both his advisor and his dorm fac.

My son has been surprised by how many of the kids are already in groups. Since he didnā€™t go to the regular revisit day and isnā€™t big on social media, he didnā€™t have contact with anyone other than the prefects and his roommate prior to moving in. Heā€™s feeling a little left out right now but heā€™ll be fine.

One thing that surprised me about move in - the lunch was pretty awful. Most of the schools weā€™ve been to previously made a big deal of meals when parents were there. This was clearly not an area of focus at SPS.

Those initial packs donā€™t last too long. My kids didnā€™t know anyone prior. When classes start, sports, and with the dorm, kids will meet each other and friendships will form.

Iā€™m not sure we even ate on campus on move in day? Canā€™t remember. I do remember other events. Food can be hit or miss but my kids found enough choice to find something they liked. There was always the stir fry station, salad bar, and pasta bar when the daily options werenā€™t appealing.

@HMom16, if you search for @spsparents on Facebook, you will the St. Paulā€™s School parent page. Your sonā€™s form will have a FB page set up by the school for the students of that form.

@doschicos is right that the initial packs donā€™t last long. There are lots of form- and dorm-bonding activities in the first few days (the dorm trips are tomorrow), and then he will get to know the kids in his classes. Playing a fall sport will help greatly too.

I totally canā€™t remember last yearā€™s move-in day food. I guess it got drowned in the memory of my blistered feet, the blistering heat, or both.

Then we all get to meet in 4 weeks!! Sans @doschicosā€¦ darn it.

The Family Weekend schedule is up on the SPS website: https://sps.myschoolapp.com/ftpimages/36/download/download_1371782.pdf

With the risk of becoming annoying, I thought some excerpts from Rector Hirschfeldā€™s Fall Convocation this morning are worthy of sharing.

@HMom16, speaking of Facebook, I find the St. Paulā€™s School Admissions page to be most frequently updated with photos and new posts.

On the SPS parents portal, the (almost) daily Chapel announcements are very informative, as well as the photo galleries and the News/Recent activity.

@GoatMama Thanks! I was wondering where you got all of that ā€œinsideā€ info!
