St. Paul's School Concord NH

5'2" is PERFECT size for a COXSWAIN on a crew shell. THat is the person at the back of the boat who beats out the time for the oarsman and shouts STROKE STROKE YOU LAZY B@#TARDS, THEY'RE GAINING ON US!!
I know a girl that got a scholarship to Michigan to be a Coxswain. There is a deft shortage of experienced Coxswains (love that word) in top notch colleges!

Plus SPS has THE best crew course and fantastic boathouses. I have rowed courses like Exeter's which curves all over the place or Andover's where the water was polluted. SPS, 1 1/4 mile dredged straight course, 4 boats abreast! Daughter used to row. Son still does. Great sport! Plus if we win, we can toss those 5'2" coxes in the water.

I frequent this thread a lot because of the great information about the great school.

As of late, after decisions have come out, it has become more of a "SPS has this better than XXX" thread. It would be nice if it was back before the "competition".

/rant

? I'm still getting lots of information from this thread. And I think your still visiting it because you have nothing better to do, I mean you've already eliminated it as a choice. I mean you come here and talk about what math your taking...having nothing to do with SPS. But ya it's friendly competition, joking around...chill out a little.

I appreciate the info. and this is the season for "my school is better than yours" so come hither. This is a thread for information specifically about St. Paul's after all.

PV must be bored like me, she is trolling :)

Sorry, I guess you are correct.

I, truly, apologize! I've had a somewhat bad day... Sorry again!

It's OK, you are a veteran and welcome to troll anywhere on this site!

Meh... I like to keep trolling in the cafes. Not all my posts are useful, such as this one, so I guess this counts as trolling. :)

Yes, back when I started this thread I did it because CC people get way too focused on ranking schools (and re-ranking, and slicing and dissecting differences). So principalviola, your point is well taken. The focus should continue to be a free and full exchange on JUST St. Paul's School.

With the 4th most postings of over 2,000 BS threads , and over 30,000 'views', it is fulfilling it's purpose. But, ONLY TO BE SAID HERE, SPS is the best. Many of us know that and we DO try to tell others on occasion. As emdee said: "this is the season". ;)

I am trying (sometimes unsuccessfully) to limit my postings so we can have a broad cross-section of other parents, students and alums. I think it is great! Good job all of you.

I just read on the Saint Paul's web site that they are increasing financial aid by 7% for next year.

Full article: https://www.sps.edu/podium/default.aspx?t=6183

Winterset, I'm really interested to know what colleges the graduating class went to this past year.

In terms of the dollar amount of financial aid given, I am not surprised SPS is going up. So many more people need FA this year and they are bound to give slightly more financial aid.

It's great that they can make a commitment in time such as this. I think, if I am not mistaken, SPS also has the highest barrier (which is good) for giving full pay FA... 80k, no?

Yup, and no principal they're not bound to give more FA just because more people are requesting it. They could give a lot of preference to the full-pay legacies and accept all of them, but they don't. Many top schools do and and have.

FINALLY got my package today...full of paper and contracts. Then got 2 handwritten letters coaches, then letter from the rector. I got a lot of SPS mail today lol.

Bound, in a sense. If you imagine throwing darts the higher percent of an area you have the likelier it is to land there.

That being said, this year full pays have a hook.

Is 5'7" too tall for a coxswain?

Yeah that's way to tall.

Is 5'2 Ok?

Definitely.

5"7 isn't "too" tall, it IS on the tall side, but there isn't really a height limit for coxes. They should be relatively small, though..
Sidenote: During the Beijing Olympics, for the Men's 8s, the silver (or was it bronze?) medalist was GBR. GBR's coxswain, Acer Nethercott is 174 cm, so don't be discouraged!
Side-sidenote: The other medalists for the men's 8s's coxs were 5"4 and 5"5.

hmm, wasnt there some kid from GBR that was 14... i believe he was a diver ... possibly synchronized mens diving?
