benevolent4them, the tour guides that you get are random because the tour guides are volunteers who just happen to have free periods at the time that you come to visit the school. So they couldn't have "picked" a better tour guide

Benevolent: What I'm saying is that if you have that opinion you can post a thread or something..I doubt anyone here agrees with you. Or they wouldn't be following the SPS thread. You come here and you talk about random crap, go to the countdown thread or something to talk about heights and have conversations that have nothing to do with SPS.

How is the dining hall set up? I didnt get to see it. Is it many round tables or long rectangular shaped tables? Also, do they make you sit in a specific spot for the sit down dinners?

I wouldn't mind being one either. I'm 5'7" right now at 13, but my dad is 6'2" and my mom is 5'9", so it would only be for like a year.

lol, and my voice is still high, so it would be embarrassing...

My voice is not cracked yet, but at least girls say it is a "good" high... whatever the hell that means.

mpicz, in the dining hall were we eat for like lunch and stuff there are long rectangular tables and wooden chairs, that make a ton of noise when you get up.
When we have seated meal, you're randomly assigned a table with like around 5 people and sometimes there is a faculty and sometimes there won't be one. And you sit with that group for a few weeks.

kk
i'll go to St. Paul's. It looks beautiful, plus, i can buy some cool sweatpants at revisit and i can flaunt them at school
HELL YES

....what the heck?
i just turned 13 like 4 months ago and i'm 5'8......i guess st. paul's wanted me cuz of my physical appearance, lol, ......jk....?

Benevolent: my interviewer pwned, he was funny and we had a great time talking, and our convo lasted like half an hour.

i'm not too smart. 86 percentile, B's and A's in class. B minus occasionally, lolll

is anyone else going? if so, send me a private message and maybe WE CAN BE FRIENDS AT SPS

i'm visiting april 5th and 6th, i hope to meet some nice peeps there.

kiss kiss...hug hug.... - mehkins

5'8 at 13?! wow, you should try out for crew

i'm only 5"4. ugh.
holy mother of pearl. a CCer got rejected from exeter, right? and when she called them to find out why (asked for feedback), they said it was partly due to her low grades
.. SHE GOT STRAIGHT A'S.
:/
i think they got her file mixed up or something..

is SPS's campus really 2000 acres?! wow. owo!

At 5'7" in 8th grade, I'm around the average height. I may be on the small side.

One kid is 6'3" in my grade, and one kid is like 4'9". Yah, SPS has a huge and beautiful campus!

haha, but isn't mehkins a girl? .. psh.

seriously?! here, the average height for 7th graders is like.. 5"3.
the girls are like 5"4 and the boys are like.. smaller. XD

hah, next year, they'll probably be taller than us! oh dear. i should enjoy towering over them while i can..

What type of winter clothes (jacket, boots, etc.) do the girls wear at SPS? I have a feeling that my daughter's Uggs will be shredded in 5 minutes.

Is there a separate crew team for entering students (third formers)? Do most of the folks who participate in crew have prior experience? My d is 5'8 at 13, so I think she has the height for it and no commitment to any sport, yet.

Nice 5'8"! If she is still growing, I'd make her try out for bball!

Yes 2,000 acres. ponds a stream (even a portion you can fly-fish on). Think my wife married me because she loves St. Paul's. She claims it is the most beautiful campus of any school or college in the country (and she went to Miss Porters & Harvard). But you have to like not being in a city (at least for a few years). Rooms are nicer than most colleges, but that's easy, no dorm rooms are palatial.

Crew, love crew. Upstream from campus, above dam, then little and big Turkey Ponds separated by a dredged channel. When the government built I89 they built the bridge to permit 2 crew shells in the middle and on on each side of the pillars. Brand new boathouse. Still row mostly classic wooden boats. Much more expensive, harder to set up, but faster. Two members of my crew were US Olympic, and many since then. Row well enough and the school will send you to Henley England to compete! Oh and coxes do not need to know how to row, just drive a straight line, feel comfortable yelling at people bigger than you and have a good sense of timing. Great coaches too. And on Anniversary you compete by club (Shattuck or Halcyon), varsity wears special blazers and come to the award ceremony in a horse drawn wagon (think Clysdales, like Budweiser). I can even teach you some of the crew songs (today they don't know them).

emdee: Very few kids have prior crew experience. There are a series of boats and you work your way up based on your strength and technique. And a sport where you get in great shape and have few injuries. If she is interested, they will teach her. The varsity coach was my coach 38 years ago. They have experience.

emdee - there is club level crew - noncompetitive - for those just starting out, and then boats 1 through 3 or 4 which race competitively.

sk8 - many girls wear uggs. LL Bean boots are also popular with girls and guys. Down jackets or vests (NorthFace or other brands) and wool pea coats are popular.

sk8, your daughter should def get a pair of bean boots, and like a north face or patagonia sweater, and also a lot of sweatpants to wear when not in school.

Wow... If I chose to go to a formal school I will, to be able to go to everything, need to spend close to a thousand.

Oh well, haha. So much for not having suits, or many shirts.

The SPS footwear of choice:
L.L.Bean Boots, 10" Shearling-Lined: Snow at L.L.Bean

The funny thing is that I wore the very same boots myself 30 years ago at boarding school.

When home on break, my daughter thinks she gets funny looks when wearing these. :)
