And I know of guy athletes taking the Intro to Dance course - good for developing balance, flexibility and core strength

**

HOW were the revisits? I have been gone for 5 days and see nothing from those of you who were up at SPS last weekend. Did it answer questions or trigger new ones? **

i now know of a fp legacy admit that has decided not to attend because of the economy. Anyone else? btw, that person doesnā€™t hang out on cc and is from the mid-atlantic region.

OMG!!! even though it doesnā€™t automatically mean someone is off the waitlistā€¦this is great news =]

Hmm I couldnā€™t goā€¦but I know someone who did and she had a good time.

"hey, the revisit was amazing. i had the best time ever and it felt like i was a student! i met soo many people and got to hang out in the dorms, go to classes, and eat the meals in the cafeterias. "

My son revisits 4/5&6.

My daughter revisited last weekend. Loved it. Had lunch with Bill Matthews and his wife. Will definately be attending. Bummed she cannot bring her cool tapestry

Ill be going to Revisit this weekend too

okay so i have been reading this for a while, being admitted as a 4th former to sps and i was wondering about something no one has really brought up.

dances and social life.

what are the different dances? is freaking allowedā€“do teachers care??

and my guide and all her freinds at my revisit had boyfriends (who were a lot older) so im guessing social lives are very popular.

but i really want to know about the social aspect of sps

the social aspect was one of my biggest worries too-itā€™s actually really social
a lot of boys and girls ā€œscoreā€ (which is like dating in SPS language)
freshman girls usually score sophmore and junior boys, and some freshmen too of courseā€¦
there is a dance almost every weekend-some are better than others though. most are pretty fun and well attendedā€¦some of the biggest ones are:
Nash Bash-first night of schoolā€¦you just dress crazy and everyones pumped to see each other so itā€™s really fun
Cocktails (or Fall Ball which the school likes to call it)-freshmen go with seniors, sophmores go with juniors, all dates are set up by the prefects in the dorms and you eat dinner with your date and hang out with them and then their is a huge dance-formal wear
Mish-followed by a surprise holiday and always announced in a crazy way, mish is the biggest themed dance of the year and everyone gets way into it-this years theme was ā€œout of this worldā€
Winter Formal-switches from being girls ask boys to boys ask girls every year-formal wear and also followed by a surprise holiday
Spring Fling-spring dance like winter formal except not followed by a holiday

some weekend dances themes are: techno rave (wear all black with glowsticks), ninja dance, luai dance, jungle dance, lots of others i just canā€™t think now

many nights i donā€™t start my homework until after i check in at 9:30 because i spend so much time out with my friendsā€¦hence the reason iā€™m up late every night.

is freaking grinding? because if it is, yes its allowedā€¦there are chaps at every dance but they donā€™t really do anything or get involved.

intervis is also on saturday nights from 7:30-11, so many kids hang out and watch movies and whatever

anything else you want to know about?

oh okay good!

cocktails sounds really fun!

and for next year do the girls ask the guys or do the guys ask the girls?

so just like groton and choate there are regular saturday night dances. cool

yeah freaking is grindingā€”maybe thats a west coast thing? good it is so akward when teachers get invovled.

oh so there is a long time for boys and girls hanging out in the same dorm. is there any time for that during the week?

and are people friends with others that arent in their dorm (obviuosly there is but are more poeple friends within your house)?

and is hard to make friends coming in as a 4th former?

Wait, Iā€™m confused? Students at our school grind with teachers?

no they tell people to stop grinding

oh hahaā€¦ Well, I guess they forget that itā€™s high school!

Isnā€™t grinding in public a bit exhibitionist? Is this ok in NE prep schools in public?

I know there were some complaints about this last year at sonā€™s school. Some of the freshmen girls were upset about and told their parents who complained to the dean. This resulted in freshmen only dances and maybe more of a crackdown at dances. I donā€™t really know the specifics though. My son doesnā€™t go to dancesā€¦or he goes, stands around for a bit with his buddies, then leaves.

just saying-you will most likely find grinding at most high school dances anywhere in the USā€¦including prep-schools. the friends i have at other schools all say it happens at their dances too.
maaa-making friends outside your dorm seems hard at first but it really isnā€™t! especially freshmen year, the dorms are so scattered that you usually have friends in every one! and part of the fun is sleeping in someone elseā€™s dorm for a night.
iā€™m friends with many new fourth formers and they all seem pretty happy, but some hang out in a group more by themselves although they have many other friends at the school-it all depends on who you want to be friends with.

sarum-iā€™m not really sure when else youā€™d grindā€¦and also although the schools are good NE prep schools we are still average high school kids in other ways. most kids grind just for fun and as a way to dance, not as much to put on a show.
(not trying to be mean in any way at all)

maaa-during the week you can visit boys and girls dorms from 7:30-9:30 (freshmen check) every single night.
and next year winter formal should be guys ask girls because this year it was girls ask guys.

This gave me a chuckle: [YouTube - Grinding Rules](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhm0QY6_hOs)

this too-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBh-42MLINg
