hockeymomof3: you are right re this local day school. we never considered it given the track record. the kid i mentioned is the only one to get an ivy this year. i was glad but surprised that he did well given past results and the heavy competition. i heard about their new placement person and hope he gets results.

I have one in the lower school so hopefully by the time S is a Sr. things will change.
D goes to the Catholic HS and the SRs. there actually did better than at fore mentioned school. Go figure???

Our family has seen the same development nhsportsdad reports and believe college placement is only a small part of the whole SPS experience. But nhsportsdad, when did Middlebury become second tier?

I guess Middlebury is second tier when itâs coming from a Williams alum. ;)

Touche! (10 CHar)

Why did SPS get a new College placement guy? Whatâs his background?

new satire blog started by 2 5th formers-check it out for some laughs (although most jokes wonât make sense)

Sarum: SPS did not get a new college placement person. A local day school here in NH just added one. They have not been able to get their students on the radar at many colleges.

Re Middlebury, I was unclear and will try to explain again.

Some would have considered Middlebury âsecond tierâ in my college days versus some similar schools. However, Middlebury and many other schools have benefited from the competition for college spots. It is a highly competitive school today and has risen relative to others. US News now ranks it above Bowdoin. Of course, this same ranking has Amherst over Williams so they are not always right. :)

I dont get how SPS students could have fun outside of school when theyâre so isolated! :o

Theyâre are no more isolated than many BS kids - Deerfield, NMH, Hotchkiss are all more isolated than SPS. Exeter, Lawrenceville and Choate are no closer to big cities than SPS.

First, the kids are kept busy on campus between academics, sports, clubs, drama, music, whatever. Most down time is on Saturday nights and Sunday days. Kids enjoy hanging out with their friends, there are activities on campus., you can go off campus to restaurants, movies, shopping, ski resorts, etc. Even at schools located closer to major urban areas, BS students often donât venture off campus often. Most like to relax and rest when given some down time.

Went to the SPS-Tabor crew regatta today. Happy to report that Tabor only won one race (boyâs 4th crew) out of seven races! Almost a total sweep by the Big Red!!

The races were at the Mass. Maritime Academy, most recently known from the news about Captain Richard Phillipsâ kidnapping.

trust me, sps kids have fun.

I thought Captain Phillips was a Green Mountain mariner?

Captain Phillips is a graduate of Mass. Maritime Academy who now lives in Underhill Vermont.

He did well!

i have some questions about rooming and the facebook thing.

when do you get your roommate and do they give you facebooks, emails or what??

and also you submit your picture for that school handbook/facebook thingâwhen does that come out?

You will get calls from a returning student in your dorm mid to late August. I think that is when you find out your dorm. I canât remember if it is through these calls that you find out your roommate situation.
the photos you send in begin appearing in the facebook (online) sometime during the summer (actually I guess that is when you find out what dorm you are in.) I think you can access the facebook from your login info from you acceptance. I believe you get a hard copy of the facebook when you get to school.
you get your email address on the facebook and your telephone # too. but you may not be able to access you email until you get to school and get that login info.

the past few years, the online facebook became accessible on 8/1. your parents can access it for you with their log-in and password. youâll get your own password/log-in when school starts as well as access to your email account. when the facebook is updated at the beginning of august, you can see your dorm assignment, phone number, roommate and advisor.

⊠so your parents can access your facebook?

For clarification, the SPS facebook is an old-fashioned facebook, a school directory with a photo of each person. It is not interactive. There is an online version with each studentâs dorm, advisor, school email, phone extension, home address and phone and birthdate and similar info for faculty. This is what is updated each August. You can get on and see everyone in your form or everyone in your dorm or all the math teachers. When you get to school you also get a printed version.
