St. Paul's School Concord NH

I was wondering was is poular with the girls at SPS. What brands are common as well as cold weather items like parkas etc. I already know from the video, she will need a button down, boxers and tube socks:)

for girls:
pants: at sps girls can wear any colored jeans except blue, so most girls wear dark dark blue, black, gray, purple, red, jeans to class
cords from j. crew are also popular

dresses: casual dresses (from urban outfitters, forever 21, american apparel) over tights in the winter and brighter in the spring are very popular

skirts: same deal-wintery skirts over tights are very popular, high-waisted skirts are very popular (right now at least)

for fleece’s-north face, patagonia, etc. are popular
barbour (sp?) jackets and peacoats are worn by many girls also.

hunters, bean boots, rainbows, and most types of flats are also popular.

so i have some questions

is it hard coming in as a new 4th former? have the friendships already been formed or are people willing to make new friends?

are they’re dances every saturday night? i know when i visited choate and groton they said they had them every saturday, but does st. paul’s??

foootball games–are they as popular as in other schools?

sit down meals–it sounds fun and to dress up and stuff but how do they really work? seating arrangment stuff???

dress code! i go to a school w/ uniform and going to a school where you cant where jeans seems rough. what do most girls where for pants/skirts and what brands? urban outfitters, nordstroms
(these kinda brands)

im entering as a 4th former as well, so i would like to know also about the friend groups

and i think they do have a lot of dances, but i dont know how often.
and my friends who go there say that following the dress code is not as hard as it seems in the handout and papers. and i think there was a previous post on this page by sailor_chica that explains some of the clothing questions.

-I believe that finding friend groups is not as hard as it seems, because there are around 46 new kids coming in the 4th form. The new students spend tons of time together, because they arrive a day early, and also go to special events with the new students. Also, you have your dorm to meet new people, and the class of 2012 has only been together for one year at SPS, so its not like its impossible to make friends.
-Dances are basically every saturday night.
-Sporting events are very popular and most everyone attends
-Sit down meals are every Tuesday and Thursday, and you dress up and are placed with a certain table for about three weeks. This allows people to better get to know people who they might not see or meet in a normal day.
-And dress code. Apparently its not as strict as its made out to be. You can wear jeans just not “blue jeans”. So what is normal is to go to like jcrew and get cords and jeans in different colors. It’s not too big of a deal at all.

Although our form is bonded, new students should be fine. This years current fourth form is mainly new students with new students and old with old, but that is just the way the friend groups worked out, and everyone is friends. Returning people are also very accepting.

Right now all everyone’s talking about is Swine Flu-if it gets raised up to Level 6 we get sent home, and some teachers think it is VERY likely
:(

The youtube video is very well done and seems to accurately portray the fine qualities of SPS. I bet it’s an idyllic campus during the autumn season.

CP

Will the graduation ceremonies be postponed or cancelled if the students are sent home because of the swine flu?

Yeah-when the flood happened graduation was still on as planned and many kids came back to school for the ceremonies. It all depends on what happens with the flu, we could not even get sent home.
Also, we still have to finish the year. After the flood they developed a plan-we finish classes online and take finals in the fall
yuck.

not gonna lie, that take finals in fall thing sounds definitely annoying

i guess i didnt realize the swine flu was that big of a deal in new england yet. ive gotten a call from my current school and it was a robot voice saying “if swine flu increases to a dangerous level, school with be shut down” i know its a big deal but i guess i never thought it was a problem up north

and thats good about the friends thing. plus i didnt realize there would be 46 of us! haha

Just back from the annual alumni meeting and election in NYC. The Rector was there along with the Chairman of the Board. On Swine flu I believe he said the “protocol” calls for students to be sent home if level 5 is declared. But I understand they are not taking this epidemic as seriously as the more theoretical protocol, But they are in daily contact with people at the CDC and WHO. So do not pack your bags yet! I hear the school doctor says they are not sending the kids home. But stay tuned.

On admissions, he said 71% of the accepted students are coming to SPS. A truly staggering statistic! Last year the comparable number was 59% (https://www.sps.edu/podium/default.aspx?t=6183&rc=1</a>). So they are ‘over admitted’ by 17 students which makes dorms tight. The reason cited was a ‘flight to quality’, with the top schools benefiting the most.

On college admissions he said they news was good again and in line with last years Prep Review numbers (SPS was #1). Lots of colleges at SPS today for a public college fair.

There was further discussion of fundraising (up from last year), endowment (not down as much as peers), endowment draw (down from this year, in other words good news), liquidity (very good) and financial aid (up 13.7% this year). We elected a new treasurer. Oh and Bill Matthews will be there for at least 2 more years.

All news was good, other than a lousy economy and an epidemic.

are the boys at sps hot??

Who is the new treasurer?
What’s the breakdown of the 17% over enrollment? FA, FP? What is the class breakdown of the 17%?

I have no breakdown. 17 more students, not a big problem. Not 17%. SPS is just unusually popular or ‘hot’ this year. The treasurer is of the Alumni Association (Scott Fossel).

Where the hell did that % come from?:)
