St. Paul's School Concord NH

I'm surprised A & E were tied for sixth. Do you think it is because of the size of the student body?

Good old St. Albens.

Hey it is all shades of gray! All great schools. Brother was at Exeter, nephew just started Andover, father-in-law was Andover, and two other nephews at SPS. So I have nothing bad to say about any of them.

Just St. Paul's, while half the size, does phenomenally well. Somehow people (usually grads) feel their school (A or E) must be the best. It is. It's just that, well, of course, obviously, naturally, and indisputedly SPS is the best. People who went/go there know that, the others must have gone to a lesser school, and then there are those persnickety facts that validate the point. (kidding, so no flaming please)

So judging from the facts and rankings i've seen in this thread, St.Paul's has better college matriculation than E and A. I know nothings guarenteed, but if I get accepted i'm still wondering where I would choose.

From what I hear A E are huge school and SPS is smaller and all boarding? Does St.Pauls have the same weight with the top college as E and A. I don't care about harvard..I want to go to stanford. Do lots of St.Paul people go there? I tend to see different matriculation's from different places.

Stanford likes SPS kids. 26 have matriculated there over the past 5 year period according to the school's website; more than at any other college. 4 students from last years class chose to go to Stanford this year.

Ok cool, SPS just sounds like my sort of school. My parents have heard alot about exeter and andover, not sure how im gunna convince them if I get in. About how many people per grade in in SPS compared to the phillips schools.

SPS usually has around 100 kids for 3rd form (freshman). They add about 45 kids for 4th form, and another 5-10 for 5th form. Grades tend to range from 100-155 in size for around 525 total students.

Have your parents visited SPS? That might sell them on it. The other benefit is the 100% boarding and the tight knit community. I noticed from your posts that you are a minoirty. I suggest contacting Mr. Yuri Francis in Admissions who is in charge of Multicultural Enrollment.

Alright well im applying to be a junior so i'm guessing im a 5th form. 5-10 huh...o well, I think I have some stuff they'll want and I do well in interviews.

So when I contact Mr. Yuri Francis what do I say to him..?

Yup - getting in as a 5th former (junior) is challenging at SPS but worth a shot. Just sell your strengths.

Alrite thanks, If I wanted to contact Mr Francis would it be beneficial to ask some questions about how diverse the school is, to start a conversation. Or is there another reason I would be contacting him...

Yuri is a great guy. His email address is: yfrancis@sps.edu. But sounds like you should ask about the odds and problems of coming in as a 5th former. Oh and ask about the "stuff they'll want" (it gives you a chance to 'pre-sell' yourself a bit, so worth doing). Last weeks school paper had an article about the new fifth formers, sounds like they all feel welcome and have fit right in.

Thats cool, how many of them were they? Ya I read the mini bio about him and he sound like a cool guy. I know hes not the director, how much weight does he have with admissions and am I wrong by preconceiving they are looking for more capable black students?

Sorry for all the Q's, just really interested in SPS

mpicz - Yuri does have alot of pull given his role in minority "recruitment". Admission decisions are made by the committee. The school is looking for independent, hard working students - the more you can differentiate yourself based on your interests, etc. and what you can add to the community, the better.

alrite thanks.

mpicz,

Depending on your geographical location, you may also want to ask him about the ross scholarship. It's strictly merit.

Ok, well I live in Atlanta. I tried to look up the ross scholarship on google couldn't find any info. Anywhere for me to look up some information on it?

nevermind. Found it, the walker scholarship seems to fit me the best. Ill ask him how to gain consideration for these scholarships.

Not that it matters, but the Director of Admissions also happens to be black. Also, the website only lists SOME of the scholarships. There is also a new one for kids from Georgia.

An applicant's mother just sent me the following:

I love the questions on St. Paul application. One of the best is:
Dr. Samuel Drury (Fourth Rector of SPS), once stated:
"A school is not a club but a crusade...Our function is not to conform to the rich and prosperous world which surrounds us, but rather through its children, to convert it. Our business is not to produce guilded youths, but citizens and servants. The School is on a crusade." ...then goes on to ask the student how they will use their SPS education to launch their own crusade.

It's a beautiful challenging question. "

Any thoughts? I agree with her. What a great question!

I hated this question at first...it was actually the last that I decided to answer. Once I understood it fully it was the perfect question to expand on what I feel will set my application apart from many others.

I always like the biggest mistake question, good Q to show story telling skills and almost bring them into your own mind. But ya SPS has the best questions
