Hey everyone! I am getting excited for my 1st semester of college to end soon. 7 days of class left then finals week!
I realized at one point that the classes I’m taking 2nd semester have Tuesday/Thursday slots and so I decided I want to try out that condensed schedule. I am kinda tired of Monday-Friday classes right now haha it feels like high school again xD
Anyways, I am taking a full load 16 credits and my schedule will be from 9:30-3:15 those 2 days. No time for a lunch break but I think I can handle it being 2 days. I am taking an online class the 2nd half of college algebra. I guess I am also scheduling a Science Lab on Wednesdays at 8am so Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday classes. Though classes are predominantly Tuesday/Thursday. I am doing this mostly so I can work more hours back at home since I am only 30 minutes away from home where I go to school!
I am kinda getting excited for this and still can’t believe this scheduling is happening!!
Oh and I looked at the Finals week schedule, they are split up based on class so I have about 1-2 finals tops on certain days that week!
The problem is not going to be T/Th but rather Wednesday. In addition to your science lab, you’ll probably have homework and readings from all those Tuesday classes that will be due on Thursday. If you can arrange your reading schedule so that you’re ahead for a couple of classes, you might be able to do it comfortably.
One major downside is that due dates for assignments will likely be clustered together, and you are more likely to have more tests and things due on the same days, potentially being swamped/overwhelmed at times. Be very careful to leave time on your days with no classes to study and do homework, because you will have less time on your class days to do it. My youngest D thought this might be a good idea, mostly because she wanted to sleep in on her “off” days. We talked her out of it, and she told us she was glad in the end.
I don’t personally recommend/like stacking classes on just one day, but that is just me. I know that I am unproductive when I have huge chunks of free time and I know I like having a more balanced schedule rather than having them all on one day. Breaks are nice for catching up on HW, studying for a test, or talking with friends. And although I sometimes choose to grab a quick lunch rather than stay and talk with friends, I do care about and prioritize lunch in my schedule if I can for health reasons and because I think it is nice to just have it as a break from classes.
I adjusted this schedule slightly if anyone cares. I moved my 8AM Science Lab from Wednesdays to 5pm Tuesdays. I know this will mean a very busy Tuesday, but then Wednesday makes up for it with no classes!! It is an Earth Science Lab so I honestly do not think its going to be that intense in the evening!
As long as you think it’s a good idea and you can handle it, it will probably work. You will just have to be disciplined and get work done on the off days.
I mean, it probably doesn’t matter. It’s totally a personality/preference thing. Some students like having a full day to structure however they want and get all their studying and stuff done; some students prefer having classes spread out.
I would be more concerned by you not having time for lunch…I think that’s worse. If you’re hungry, you may not be as attentive and ready for your afternoon classes - and eating a full lunch in class is not really an option every week.
Unfortunately that Tuesday evening lab time was cancelled due to low enrollment I have been moved to the Wednesday 8AM again so its back to square one. I changed that because it’d be easier to do everything on 2 days. Now everything sucks
For what it’s worth I did 10:00-2:30 TuTh as well as one class Wed my past semester and did fine. It really depends on the person and the classes.
I had a schedule like that, but I only had three classes on T/R and two online classes. I loved it because I was a commuter and didn’t have to spend as much money on gas. I was bored on MWF, however.
I recently just had my first lab today at 8AM. It wasn’t terrible and it honestly felt like I had Wednesdays totally free once I was done because it was early enough. I keep making adjustments to my classes when I am going Tuesdays & Thursdays! I can’t say yet if I will do this schedule in a future semester because it seemed to be great and sucky at the same time so far in week 2.
