Stafford Loans - Lifetime limit?

Currently, a dependent student can borrow $5,500 their first year, $6,500 their second year, and $7,500 their 3rd and 4th year. That comes to $27,000. What if they need a 5th year to graduate? Is there a "lifetime limit"?

And what if they pursue graduate school? Does the limit shift up to a higher value?

Thanks!

Lifetime limit for undergrads is 31,000 (23K can be subsidized). Grad students can borrow an additional 138,500 (65K subsidized); medical professional studies can borrow up to 224K.

Thank you. Did you find this information on the Stafford Loan website? If not, might you have a reference? I appreciate it very much!

The best place is the official govt federal aid site:
[Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans | Federal Student Aid](http://studentaid.ed.gov/types/loans/subsidized-and-unsubsidized)

finaid.org has good information about student loans and their limits here:

[FinAid | Loans | Student Loans](<a href=“Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid”>Student Loans - Finaid)

The site is a little out of date in some areas, but still has good info and summarizes the information nicely.
