does anyone know anything about either stage management or theatre administration programs at columbia college. this school was suggested to me and it seems interesting- i was curious of its reputation.

sissy- a recent graduate of my high school theatre department/ a close mentor of mine is also in the MT program at webster. she is currently in her sophomore year. what a small world!

I'm a costume design student at DePaul and here Columbia is known as the place that kids who don't get in/get cut from DePaul go. I don't mean to disparage Columbia, its still an awesome school, just not as selective. I have a lot of friends who are in Stage Management or Theatre Management and they really love it, I think those programs only accept 4 people a year though. DePaul SMs seem to work on almost every production in the city and get a lot of work elsewhere. I have one friend who is now SMing @ one of Cirq du Soliel's Vegas shows. Good luck!

coffeeandcoke- that is really interesting. do you like depaul university? i had not even known that it had a theatre program until you mentioned it- i'm pretty lost in all of this admissions stuff. i would love your input!

Most people consider DePaul a top 5 theatre school, higher for design/tech/production. I love it here, I am leaving but its because I've realized that I don't want to pursue theatre at all, and that's through no fault of the school, I'm just not passionate about it like I was in high school. The Theatre School is nice because its a small school (52 freshman actors 3-5 in all the other majors per class, my freshman class was 92) within a big university. The instructors are incredible, if you do Theatre Management you'll have Leonora Brown for Intro to Theatre Studies who will absolutely kick your ass but will make you way smarter than pretty much everyone on the planet. Stage Management majors do morew design/tech oriented stuff and take a lot of drawing as freshman. All freshman have to do Theatre Crew which is actually working on one of the productions and Stage Managers actually get to do a lot of practical work right off the bat. If you live close enough we have Theatre Preview weekends where you can stay with a student on campus, see a show and do tours and even your interview if you want, you could check out Columbia then too. Feeel free to PM me if you want more info
