Stamps and Shipman Scholarship 2019 (Class of 2023)

Has anyone heard any news (acceptances, rejections, notification dates) about the Shipman or Stamps Scholarship at U-M yet?

Current Stamps Scholar here, I got mine around this time last year inviting me to take a video conference.

D got invited to Shipman scholarship weekend today

@jabsmom10

Congratulations to your D! My son will see her there :slight_smile:

@romns116 so exciting

@sacreul was that the first time you had received any indication that you were being considered for it?

@jabsmom10 @romns116 congratulations! were you notified via email? when is the Shipman Scholarship weekend?

@clockmitch yes email.

@clockmitch

Email only, no phone call or portal notification.

@clockmitch If I recall correctly, around Feb 19, but dates change from year to year. Someone posted about them calling the office about it and being told they hadn’t been posted yet. If you’re interested, I started a thread last year with almost the same title as you if you want to check the date.

I just got an email for the Stamps scholarship, and the video interview is due on March 5th. Does anyone know the rough amount of Stamps scholarship semifinalists nominated every year? Also, are we required to commit to UMich before we receive the scholarship?

@nou123 I believe the number is around 50-60 and no, you don’t need to commit. If you get accepted you’ll be invited to a scholarship weekend at UofM and they’ll show you what we have to offer.

Even with the cold, DS loved Campus Day this past week. He’s looking forward to returning for Shipman Weekend (March 28-31).

Read the weekend info online, but if anyone had detailed /anecdotal info I’d love to hear more especially if the Shipman Weekend experience was the convincing factor to attend.

My daughter is a Freshman Shipman Scholar at UMICH. We were not even considering UMICH (could not see paying $65K per year (out of state) for a state school) until she received a call saying that she was selected as a Shipman Scholar & was invited to Shipman weekend. She had a blast that weekend despite the cold & is very close with the kids she met. The majority all live in Alice Llloyd Hall in the same hall. She will be helping out at Shipman weekend this year.

Thanks again :Punky13 ! You’re feedback has been especially encouraging. I hope my son has the same experience.

Just got an email from UMich notifying me that I have been selected as a Stamps Scholar

@nou123

What a great accomplishment! Congrats!

@nou123 Ay great job, let me know if you have any questions

Did you have to get accepted EA to be considered for these scholarships? :frowning: OOS tuition so expensive
