My d signed up for the June 08 SAT I but forgot to register for May Subject Tests, so now she's going stand by. Does anyone have any stand by success or horror stories to share? Is it worth it?

Probably depends on your test centre; I've had friends do standby testing on various occasions and not had any issues. They filled out the appropriate forms, and on test day, were able to write the test they wanted.

Yea, stand by is easy. The last time I took the SAT i decided I wanted to take it again about 5 days before the test. I went standby and went up 130 points. Dont stress over it. Just get there early, and fill out the currect bubbles on the standby sheet.

Last November, I was registered to take SAT IIs in a town I had never heard of and which I had no way of getting to, because my preferred center was full.

I called up the center that I could get to a couple of weeks before the test date, and they took my name and put me on a 'list'. They said that I should come half an hour early with the printout from collegeboard and tell them that I had called, and that this would definitely get me in.

Because they are given extra tests, and also some people fail to turn up, you have a good chance of getting in on standby- but I really recommend you call like I did because I do not know if everyone else on standby got in. When they went down the line and I gave them my name they immediately sent me through.

I tested standby; no problems either. I was worried that since I registered on paper my scores wouldn't show up on my online account, but the MONDAY after the SAT, my College Board online account already showed that I had taken the test, and I received my scores along with everyone else, online.
