Standard vs Five Year MS EECS?

Anyone here notice that EECS now offers a five year combined masters program, effective F'06? Was that open to incoming freshmen applicants, and if so did anyone apply for it? Any estimates on how difficult the new program may be, considering that EECS undergrad is supposedly hard enough as is?

Uh, I think you may want to read about it more carefully. You can't "apply" for it as a freshman. You apply for it at in the 2nd semester of your (Berkeley) junior year, with no guarantee that you will get in. This means that you will have to have performed quite well in your EECS classes in your first 2.5 years at Berkeley. Hence, you might be coming to Berkeley aiming for the BS/MS program, and then not get in.
