Does Duke make you send in every single test that you've taken? For example, I took the ACT in September and am happy with my score. I am signed up for the SAT this saturday, which I feel good but not great about. The main reason that I'm taking this test still is that I thought that schools don't make you send in every test. So even if I do bad, I don't have to send in the score right? Anyways, let me know please. Thanks.

I don’t think they can know if you take that test if you don’t send the score or list it on your common application. At least, that’s with the ACT. I’m not sure but I don’t think there’s much of a way around it on the SAT.

However, I’m pretty sure that Duke superscores. In my case, my highest ACT was a 31. The last time I took it, I got a 30 and dropped 8 points in a subject. However, one or two of my scores were my highest ever so I sent in that test. I’ve heard (not positive) that they only see your best scores. So even if you bomb every portion, send it because you might just get that 35 in math this time and bump up your chances!

Duke only considers the the highest CR, M, and W scores on the SAT and the highest ACT composite/essay. I’m not even sure that admissions will even see the lower scores if you send them in. (i.e you send in [800,600,600] [600,800,600] and [600,600,800] that would be seen as a 2400.)

^ ???

“For students who choose to submit the ACT with writing, Duke will consider the highest composite score and highest sub scores on each section, regardless of test date, but will not recalculate the composite score.”

That’s exactly what MW2isawesome was saying.

Yeah that’s what I was saying, sorry if I was unclear. They explicitly state that each score sent in can only better your application. I, for example, sent in all my ACT test dates (2)and my SAT and on the ACES thingy (the page they give you to check what has been submitted and whatnot) it only listed my highest ACT composite and SAT sections. I would imagine (but don’t know for sure) that a similar screening occurs before admissions officers see the scores, similar to whether or not the applicant needs financial aid.

Also keep in mind that Duke converts standardized testing to a numerical 1-5 ranking (5 being the best). So there probably isn’t a whole lot of difference to be made with ACT subscores if the composite is the same or lower.

Sorry, I thought you meant they just take the highest composite.
