standardized testing emphasis

So, does anyone know how seriously Colgate takes the SATs? Personally, I'd prefer they put a large emphasis on them, but most schools don't.

For the average unhooked applicant to Colgate, good scores are important. Good grades are more important.

I’m salutatorian, so grades aren’t an issue. But yeah, the only hook I have is that my uncle is on the alumni board. Do you think a 700 CR and 780 Math are solid Colgate material for a white, non athlete? (Oh, and 720 Writing, but I doubt they count this)

^A year or two ago, someone posted on here that the avg SAT for a white, non-athlete male at Colgate was 1384; so, you should be in rather easily.

How do you know you’re salutatorian yet when you have the whole Senior year to go?

Gellino, I suspect the average would be higher for that profile (the average SAT for all admitted students in the class of 2012 was 1403), but I agree that colin’s chances are good. Write a good essay!

I meant that as of right now I’m salutatorian; things could change.

I think the average accepted student SAT that year was 1389 and the average enrolled student SAT was 1349. Given the yield is usually at 34%, the ratio is probably right about the same; so maybe the average SAT for a non-athlete, white male in the most recent class was right ~ 1400.

solid. Thanks, guys.

gellino, I got the 1403 number from the Colgate website.
