Standards for BS/MD or BA/MD Programs

What are the standards for getting accepted into a BS or BA MD program?

3.6+ GPA

These stats will not be enough for most programs, although some programs at state schools with heavy preference for IS might consider IS applicant with these stats.

^On the contrary, in order to be applicable, many programs actually have lower required stats for applicants. That doesn’t mean you’ll get in with those lower stats, but it does mean that you have a chance.

Well, oficially, the standards were always low in comparison to what you need to get in. And number of spots have decreased with some programs closed and others having fewer spots. Keep in mind, you will compete with people who have close to perfect stats and all possible EC’s. The ones who are even ahead of this bunch are connected ones and URMs. Then conider programs that offer 15 spots with 1000+ applicant pool and you will understand why 3.6 is not good enough.
Goos luck anyway. Apply to wide range of programs.

well, I was very curious in the stats. I’ve taken my SAT five times and have only managed to get 2090 at most with 720 math and 660 reading. I have 720 on Biology M and 3.8 GPA UN and 4.176 W. I also have shadowing and research. With these stats, am I an applicant that will have a fair and good chance to being accepted to these programs?

I think your chances are not that great because the SAT score is relatively important and for some programs the cutoff to even be considered is 2100. Maybe you could try the ACT to get the scores above the mark because these programs assess academics before they focus on the EC’s unless the EC’s are truly remarkable. But again apply widely and hope for the best.

I believe that you have good chances. Aapply to wide range of programs. Stop taking SAT. Keep in mind that my D. did not get to most popular programs 4 years ago with 4.0uw -#1 in her graduating class/2140/ACT=33/. However, she has applied to several at state schools (our state has more than others). She got into 3 at state schools and choose the one that had an option of being able to apply out still retaining your spot. Her UG was a very good match for her personality and wide range of interests. This is very important. So, apply to wide range of schools and if you have choices at the end, go to the one that you see yourself being happy.

Understandable. Thank you everyone.
