my son has a dilemma. He took the SAT in late freshmen year to have like a baseline score. He got a 1900 with 700+ in math and writing but a <500 in the critical reading section. He simply had a bad day for the readin section. He didnt attempt an SAt ever since because of his ACT score tht he got in Junior year. He got a 35 (all 35s for subsections) for the ACT. his Subject test was 700+ for Bio and Math 2. The problem here is that he is applying to stanford, and upenn which recquire all test scores. My question is will he look bad from a standarized testing point?? Cause he got a <500 in reading in like early years of high school but scored a 35 on ACT reading and has made consistent good grades in english classes at school. Will tht affect him? a 1900 vs 35 dillema??

I really doubt this will be a problem. The dates will be listed on the test reports and the schools will see it was during Freshman year. And it could just have been an off day. Don’t worry about this.

Freshmen getting 1900 is actually not bad at all. Nevertheless, it is a very old concept to take a baseline test (unless it is in middle school) or without preparation. One should just do a practice test to determine the baseline.
