How do you make yourself stand out among other applicants for college? I know of the buzzers like CEO of companies, Olympic Champs, famous actors, etc. but are there any realistic stand-outters? Would working for a national magazine or city newspaper make you stand out? How about hosting for a local TV show? Coming from a very low-income family? First college-bound generation?

<p>being a URM. making a significant impact in your community. winning a credible award or competition. donating thousands of dollars to a university. outstanding leadership. publishing a book or essay.</p>
<p>oh yeah and RESEARCH if you're applying to MIT or caltech or the like.</p>
