Standout Student Application/Honors Program

I was informed that St. Michael's College would be sending me a Standout Student Application (SSA) this fall, and I will apply using it. I was wondering if using the Common App is necessary to apply to St. Michael's College using the SSA. With the application, does anything need to be submitted electronically?

Also, I have one other question. I am an Early Admissions student at SUNY Adirondack. I took a few of my classes there during my junior year and will be taking all of my classes there this year to meet my high school requirements. At my high school, my grades from SUNY Adirondack are not included in my GPA. If I am accepted, will St. Michael's consider those grades for possible admittance into the Honors Program?

Hello Lizard88–

Thank you for your note. If you apply via Standout Student Application (SSA), you don’t need to complete the Common App (and vice versa). One application isn’t favored over another at all, so pick whichever you want. If you’re already doing the Common App for other schools, generally it makes sense to just apply to us via the Common App.

Yes, the fact that you’ve taken some college courses will certainly be used when you are being considered for the honors program. What is more important though is your performance in both your college courses and your high school courses. It is a comprehensive review.

If you have specific questions regarding the honors program, please contact Mike Stefanowicz, the Assistant Director of Admission who is on the honors admission committee. ph: 802-654-2108 or e-mail- mstefanowicz@smcvt.edu

Sincerely,

Jeremy Brown
Assistant Director of Admission

Do you know if the Standout Student Application has been mailed out yet or when I can expect the application? I plan on applying EA1.

Thank you.
