Stanford - 2007 Transfer Thread

Hey,

One of my letters of rec. is from a Stanford alum. who's published a ridiculous amount of books--probably pretty well respected in anthropology circles. He's my adviser for my independent research, so we know eachother fairly well. How great of an effect do you think a letter of rec. from an alum. has on the possibility of a fat-packet come late-May (assuming the quality of the letter of rec. is decent)?

Also, I made it clear in my application that I will try out for the collegiate soccer team if I'm enrolled in the fall. I've been in contact with the Stanford Head Coach, and have played D1 soccer at my current school (I must admit, it was spring season), but my interest is legit. However, it's not like I'm being offered any athletic scholarship. There's no chance in hell the coach would rubber-stamp my application. Still, can anyone conjecture on what this is doin' for the fat-packet?

Any comments much appreciated. Thanks!

Ben

StanReedford,
I think letter from the alum will definitely help but thr soccer team would not work.

does it really help if I got a letter from a Stanford alumni?

For those of you who are worried about some late stuff, this was my response:

StanReedford:
just out of curiosity, how can you describe your essays as "excellent," what makes them so??
btw, your ec's look pretty strong, i hope you would get in..

just out of curiosity, what did you guys do with "the optional one page" which should not have been "another essay?"

Interesting article on Stanford transfers http://www.stanfordalumni.org/news/m...transfers.html

I was given advice to answer all "optional" questions. I included my research proposal abstract and informed them I'd been communicating with the coach about soccer. "unusual or extenuating..." maybe not

awww don't we all wish to be happy like them~~

I know I do. The thing is, are they happy because they got accepted, or did they get accepted because they were happy? :)

if they were happy, they wouldn't have transferred.
