Stanford 2008 Transfer

wait how do you access ur finaid?

I’m talking about last year’s SUNet fiasco. Again my only source is College Confidential; I have no idea what is going on this year.

Do u mean that they have already reviewed most of the apps?

They’ve only got 3.5 business days left. They better have reviewed most of them. (;

Good luck, all.

I’m sure Stanford knows who they are admitting. Now we’re simply trying to figure out how to know what Stanford knows.

The SUNet trick was confirmed last year on the Stanford Transfer 2007 thread:

This is how the loophole worked last year. NOTE: IT HAS NOT BE PROVEN TO WORK THIS YEAR

Visit this website: https://sunetid.stanford.edu/main/SUNetIdApp/CreateApp</a>
Then enter your application ID (provided in the emails Stanford sent out around April 15th) into the first field the states “Enter your University ID,” and if you receive the following message:

“We couldn’t find a match for the number you entered (XXXXXXXX). Check that you entered the number correctly. You may have received your University ID before it has been made available to this system; try again later. If you are unable to continue, contact HelpSU for assistance.”

you have (most likely) been rejected. If you receive the following message:

“You entered ‘XXXXXXXX’. We recognize this as a University ID. We need some additional identification to verify that you are the person who owns this ID.”

you have (most likely) been accepted.

Again, this loophole was proven to work last year but MOST LIKELY STANFORD CLOSED IT THIS YEAR. Since I get the previous error message I can’t confirm this works. Does anyone who did not previously have a SUNet account with the university receive the second message?

Only problem with its universality is that a buttload of applicants didn’t get University ids with the email this year.

Remember to post your stats when you get your decision!

spoke to admissions today. the decisions are done. we should know by Mon or Tues. look to your email and good luck to everyone.

That’s funny, I just talked to them today and they said decisions would only be available on the 15th.

nope. expect it mon. if i’m wrong, you can chastise me Mon. night. ;-))

btw, word on the street is that they are 80-100 over for freshman class which might just reduce the # of transfers. hopefully not.

The 2-post count, registered today, eerily similar to transfermation20 doesn’t lend a lot of credence to the allegation but we’ll all see soon enough.

And for the record, the # of transfer admits has already been fixed at 40.

Undisclosed,

If you’re basing that 40 figure on the article in the Stanford Daily, that’s no guarantee. They admitted less freshmen this year, maybe in part to try to admit more transfers, but if their yield was so exceptionally high, then that might push the number back down to 20. They are undergoing a pretty bad housing crunch right now.

Tin75, I really hope you’re right.

sorry, don’t know this reference to transfermation20? Can u enlighten me?

Yes, I did just register today but I have been reading your posts for about a month now and appreciate all that has been posted.

as to # being fixed at 40, well i hope you are right.
and as far as my info, i am only repeating what i was told.

frankly it’s a miracle if they are only 100 over. they offered admission to 2400

4 more days

or 96 hours. lol

god man. this is ridiculous.

how badly would you freak out for getting accepted? being 40 of 1000?

so was the id thing proved to be false? im scared now because my email didnt have an id attached to it!

No one ever proved the SUNet loophole to be true this year, and it’s impossible to prove it to be false until official decisions are released.

I bet Stanford will release their official admit numbers tomorrow. Check the Daily website for the number of transfer admits and matriculating freshmen. Past articles on the entering freshman class size have usually come out around this time of the month.

jin2daj: Our odds are probably more like 30 out of 1450…20 out of 1450 if you feel pessimistic. Note the use of the word “plan” in the Daily article announcing 40 transfer spots. I’m pretty sure Stanford didn’t “plan” on overshooting their quota by double digit numbers for a second year in a row. They anticipated a higher yield when they admitted fewer freshman (2400 compared to 2464 last year) than in past years, but in doing so it looks like they were planning for a yield rate of 70% (which is close to last years). But I’m willing to bet the yield rate is even higher this year, since Harvard, Yale, and Princeton are digging so deeply into their waitlists. Looks like freshman can’t get enough of the Farm.

17 (according to Tin75) - 89 hours to go.
