Stanford 2008 Transfer

Holding up? I will get back to you on that when I start holding

up…that is…

they’re e-mailing everyone on the 15th. i got into another school and contacted them about getting the decision before that school’s deadline, and i got an e-mail back saying i’d get an e-mail on the 15th. am i just confirming what we already know, or was that new information to anyone?

Their official previous stance was that they would notify no later than the 15th, so I guess that means the 15th. Are you sure they didn’t say that they would send the letters out no later than the 15th?

Can we request that our decisions be sent slightly earlier? Perhaps on May 10 or 11?

Do you think missing the word “of” in the very first sentence of the essay is going to hurt me a lot

I also found 2 more grammar errors in the supplemental forms

no it wont

no, they won’t tell you before then. as i mentioned, i e-mailed them asking if they could let me know sooner, as i have to answer the other school before the deadline. they said they were sorry, they couldn’t let me know any earlier than the 15th, but that they would send an e-mail on the 15th.

does anyone actually know how the evaluation process is working..

How many people are involved in the application evaluation? I assume such decisions are not taken by one person. I wonder how the decisions are made. Is there some kind of score system so everyone has to put a score for essay, supplementals and then they calculate the total and lets say the highest 20 or 30 (depending on the availability of the transfer positions) get accepted?

Does the admission committee gets together in one big room and starts going through all of the applications ? Do they discuss the each applicant?

I find it very interesting, does anybody has “inside” info :)

Well this is just hearsay but I think the process goes like this.

Two people read over every application and divide them into three piles: Rejections, Consideration, and Strong consideration (I made up the names but its in that vein).

Rejections (the bigger of the three piles) are out of the game at this point. The Strong considerations go to the head admissions guy for approval/review.

And the consideration pile goes to a committee.

Keep in mind that this is a badly remembered summary of another post somewhere on this board…Might even be for Yale lol.

So is each person “authorized” to place your application in the “rejection” pile? Or only when both of them agree they can reject

I hope to get at least to the committee review :)

How much does a connection to Stanford (relative went, donated, etc.) count in terms of getting in?

another question.. I have been attending 4 different schools within the last 10 years.

one in my home country university (3 years) and 3 in the US - I went to Community College 1 (3 years) , Community College 2 (0.5 year - 1 semester) and University ( 1 semester)

Though on my transfer application I am using only home country university (3 years) and US Community College 1 (3 years)

This is 6 years of combined school. I think, should be enough to prove my strong performance.

Can I omit my last couple of schools (it is only 2 semesters), I got really sick during the last year and it affected my records.. my performance was a lot worst then the average for the last 6 years.

If I do not send the transcripts from the last 2 schools will that hurt me badly

bestdev: I think it will hurt you that you did not send in transcripts from your last two schools. Unless you have a very compelling reason why you didn’t send in those transcripts, the adcoms will suspect something is up. I know this because I asked several times if I had to send in all transcripts. The repeated answer was, “Yes, you absolutely must send in all transcripts.” I didn’t want to send in one of mine because I had a 3.61 gpa at an unaccredited Christian college. I’ve had a 4.0 gpa elsewhere. Good luck. Maybe, just maybe they will overlook your fault.

If they find out… Yes. If they don’t… No.

Additionally, if you’re talking about your most recent academic history they’ll be particularly interested in your recent “academic break.”

I do not mind to send them these transcripts I would have to attach the explanation letter

ok.. today UC Berkeley posted their admissions. I was not accepted. And the acceptance rate was 26%.. should I give up on Stanford where the acceptance rate is 1.5% ??

Berkeley’s admission rate was 26%? Holy vishnu.

no one answered my question :(
