@theanaconda , they only allow submitting 2 recs. The supplement is just the same as you listed with one more - elaborate on an EC in 150 words. There are also some short Columbia-style questions like your favorite books etc. They only ask if you applied before, just yes or no.
actually you can submit one additional recommendation. it says so on the page with the mailing labels:
“Optional Letter:
You may submit no more than one optional letter of recommendation. Ask your recommender to note your official name, birth date, current school and Common Application ID number at the top of the letter. No form is required, and there is no mailing label. Your recommender may send the letter via mail or fax: 650-723-6050.”
The Stanford supps are super different - for me anyways. I wrote completely new ones for them.
This is a little off-topic, but I was admitted to Stanford as a freshman applicant. I will have taken 110 credits of college coursework by the time I graduate high school and I’m currently in the process of having my credits evaluated (up to my 45 cred. limit as a freshman). I take all of my classes at a CC in Washington state. Where are you guys from and what classes have you taken?
I have an uncle who received his doctorate at Stanford and also worked as a professor in the School of Education right after he obtained his doctorate. I noted him on the common application where it asks about relatives who have attended/worked for Stanford. Does this have even a small effect on admission consideration?
@bottomfeeder I guess that doesn’t really count as legacy but mentioning it won’t hurt anyway. If you uncle is a well-respected prof there, I guess it may add to your application. However, you shouldn’t over-emphasize the importance of your uncle in your application or it may backfire.
No. None.
If your parents are alum(s), what you get is a second person to read your essay to see if they agree with the first reader.
@JustOneDad I’m not sure how admission at Stanford works, but I’m pretty sure that all ivy league schools have two different readers before one is accepted/rejected or sent to committee. Legacy helps in a different way, e.g. they may look at your flaws more leniently.
@justonedad is right. You have an extra reader.
Oh my god guys, finally submitted my application! And so the agonizing wait begins…
I submitted mine in the mid-Feb and they still haven’t processed my files lol Guess they got quite a lot of apps:p
Hey there! I’m applying from the east coast! I submitted my app and everything mid-Febuary. I’m very nervous and excited at the same time. Waiting two months is going to be torture!
Yeah totally! I’m applying from California what major did you apply for?
Will not having applied as a freshman before help…? lol
Instead of guessing, why not google? As I said and @JustOneDad said, legacy gets two readers:
I applied as an English major and then for my other interest/choices I put Anthropology and Film.
My second recommender just finished yesterday… phew… nerve wracking.
I’m applying as History + Russian/Slavic major. Godspeed to anyone who is in the same boat or is otherwise rushing to finish it today!
Rising sophomore applying as economics major.
Does anyone know if our current semester grades count?
I currently have a 3.9 GPA but i’m taking German 2 this semester and I’m worried about my grade for the class. I know Stanford doesn’t require a mid-term report, so do you think if my GPA drops by one or two points it would be a problem?
Nope! Because there’s no mid-term report required for Stanford.
are there any people applying for a junior transfer? judging from the number of sophomore transfer applicants i’m beginning to feel like maybe i should’ve tried last year… haha
