for those who got accepted, would you mind sharing what you wrote for the essay questions? specifically the what matters and why and the intellectual vitality question? also the roommate one if you don’t mind lol.
@LatinaTransfer Congratulations!
Thank you!!
For those of you who don’t check your email regularly, Stanford sent an email to enrolled transfers today about Approaching Stanford and Canvas
@LatinaTransfer Congratulations on your acceptance and your accomplishments! That is absolutely amazing!
I signed up on canvas and have been reading the approaching Stanford guidebook. I got my package on Saturday. Very exciting. Thank you @YesPolyglotGal !
@LatinaTransfer wow congrats! I was wondering if you could share some of your stats? (major, community college gpa, essay answers)
since your user name says “latina” i was wondering if you wrote anything about being latina or diversity in your essays and if you think that helped?
I attended Canada College in the bay area and had a 4.0 GPA, computer science major, mom to two daughters, work full time (business development lead running our global technology transactions and life sciences industry groups), ran successful grassroots marketing campaigns for national organizations, and started a social media group for social and educational interaction. I wrote about what I overcame (poverty, being a single parent, other personal experiences) but I focused on what I achieved in spite of them (climbing corporate ladder without a degree, above accomplishments) and what I planned to achieve as a Stanford alumni. I didn’t discuss any diversity issues but if that is something meaningful to an applicant, it would make sense to write about them. I also had strong SATs and excellent recommendation letters, including one from one of the founding partners at my firm. I think it showed that if I was able to impress a well-known player in the valley, I must have something to add to Stanford’s student body. My essay responses were personal and specific to my experience and tastes so I won’t add them here because they are only relevant to me. I wrote about a related topic on Quora if anyone is interested. I think it’s a great thread for potential transfer students. https://www.quora.com/Should-I-bother-applying-to-transfer-to-Stanford/answer/Susana-Benavidez?srid=Tuor
@LatinaTransfer thank you for the response! The quora link was very helpful. If I may ask, in what essay question did you talk about your tough past and obstacles? I have a pretty tough past I want to share with colleges to explain my deficiencies but I don’t know how to talk about them without sounding like I’m just competing for the most pitiful essay lol. Which stanford essay questions or common core question did you use to talk about that stuff and how did you generally approach it, narrative-wise? I’m sorry if this sounds too personal… I don’t mean to ask about personal details or anything, but just a general structure or mentality to approach it
and congratulations again on everything! I can see why stanford admitted you.
