Stanford 2022 Deferred Applicants Discussion Thread

Guess we just gotta hang on for a couple more months

Internaational Student here! got deferred, only thing I can say is: at least is not a rejection

Palestinian-American student, just got deferredā€¦ idk what to feel.

My son maintained his grades very good on the 1st semester ( I think that is the most important and basic thing you can do ).
Once, he emailed his admission officer if he could let him know about his weakness but the admission officer said he was not allowed to tell students about that. So he just worked hard on his ECs and tried to maintain stellar grades (even after he got an admission) and filled his update form up from top to bottom.
For those who said you donā€™t know what to feel, last year when my son got deferred , we were so happy and had a big party! Unlike any other colleges, Stanford defer means you are very exceptional and have a big chance to get an admission from Stanford and other top schools!
It will be a long winter but a lot of you will get an acceptance from Stanford eventually. Work hard and be proud of yourselves !

Was your son accepted in the end? What would you recommend us to add on the optional form?

Hello everyone! Another deferred applicant signing on.

Do we know yet how many of us there are this year? I know in past years it has been around 500.

Also, @callmesoon, if you donā€™t mind me asking, what courses did your son take that term? I saved AP Physics 1/2 and AP Chem for this year. Iā€™m wondering if, as a prospective bioengineering major, they wanted me to have already taken those.

Neither Stanford, nor any other college, cares when you take a course. There are no brownie points for taking any course before senior year.

Thanks @skieurope. Glad to hear it

can you guys post stats? maybe we can identify a commonality between us

deferred but at least I found this thread

Do you guys know what we should be including on these update forms? Like I donā€™t know if I can get any new honors in the time theyā€™re giving me, or Iā€™m not in a new circumstance or something.

@callmesoon Hi! What do you mean by ā€œunofficial acceptance for deferred people is 25%ā€?

@Zalo11 I think just update them on anything you think is worthwhile updating. Make your application as strong as possible and use this as a chance to address any weaknesses in your application that you might have thought of. Good luck!

deferred! most are angry about this but i feel honored?? with a 32act i figured i had no chance but turns out they look deeper than test scores for their applicants

Do the deferral letters have information on what percentage of deferred applicants get accepted? People in previous years have posted that their letters said usually 15% get accepted in RD.

The Butterfly Effect states that small causes can have larger effects. Well, Beppeb (thatā€™s me) states that large causes can have smaller effects! Even if getting into Stanford seems like a big thing it might have a smaller effect on your life than a smaller thing which will have a bigger effect. So keep your wings up, my fellow butterflies.

@superbowlwinner the letter never mentions any percentages, it only states that you were deferred

can any of you guys view your decision letter? like I logged into my portal but it sent me to application manager and says that I havenā€™t started an application even though I viewed it yesterday.
