Stanford 2023 Chance Me RD

Hi, I’m a senior at a Catholic prep school in NJ outside Philly. I play violin, concert mistress/first chair for all four years and I play in a regional orchestra outside of school, as well as study with a Philadelphia Orchestra concert master. I’m hoping my music and academics will be enough to get me considered at Stanford! Please chance me, be BRUTALLY HONEST lol. It’s a total reach school, I’m just applying for fun and to see what happens  Thanks!!

Stats: SAT 1420 (kinda low for Stanford but I’m hoping extracurriculars will make up for that)
Weighted GPA: 4.51
Rank: Bottom of Top 10%
APs: AP English Lang and Comp
AP Calc AB
AP Chemistry
APUSH
AP English Literature
AP Stats
AP Psychology

Extracurriculars:
Violin since I was seven, talked about in my personal essay
NHS President
French NHS 10th-12th grade
Girls’ Tennis 10th-12th grade
Boys’ Ice Hockey Manager 11th and 12th grade
Peer Leadership program at my high school, 11th and 12th
All South Jersey Regional Orchestra 11th and 12th, audition only

Me: White, higher-income household, South Jersey outside of Philly

I mentioned my community service done at a food pantry in Trenton, and I plan on discussing violin as my main strength in my app because Stanford is so into the holistic, extracurricular-talent route.

do you have any awards? your ecs do seem really good but are you like really good at tennis and the violin? you need to play to your strengths. your gpa obviously you know is really good. i think that if for any reason you don’t get in it’s going to be because of your sat. but if you have really good AP scores then you could possibly supplement that.
i think also you should for your sake lol, join some super fun clubs that don’t necessarily pad your application - animal lovers club, or something like that, just to show you’re not all sports and music and grades, but you also have a normal life too, you’re 17 or 18 anyway

thanks for your reply!! unfortunately my school is pretty “everyone gets a trophy” so there are no awards given for anything… but i mean i’d say i’m really good at violin, i’ve been first chair all four years of HS and the regional orchestra i do is pretty exclusive but i agree i’m worried about my sat :frowning: and thanks for the recommendation about the fun clubs, i’m gonna mention some of the stuff like that that i do!

and wow i just looked at your EC post and dang good for you!!! stanford would be missing out by not accepting someone with all your credentials!! good luck

thank you!! definitely if we both get in, we are gonna meet!!
