**Stanford 2024 Deferred REA Applicants**

In case we want to discuss anything.

Hey! I’m one of the lucky/unlucky ones to get deferred. Crossing my fingers for April.

following

Idk about you guys but I’m feeling really confused. I can’t figure out what to think about a deferral. I was prepared for acceptance or denial but deferral? I don’t really know the percentage of kids who get in off a deferral, but I don’t know if I should be hopeful or just treat it as a rejection and hopefully get accepted as a surprise

being deferred is like being friendzoned, just with college applications. where is everyone else applying in the meantime?

I wanted to share a couple of stats

According to the yaledailynews,
Stanford defers only 8.5%, rejects 80.7%, and accepts the rest in the early applicant pool. On the other hand, other schools like Harvard, Princeton, and Yale defer 68.1%, 78.9%, and 57.6%.

In other words, we should be proud of ourselves. Stanford is holding us in serious consideration. By being deferred from Stanford, it also means we are very likely to get into at least one of the top twenty schools.

I’m not sure where I saw the next stat, but it said something like around 15% of deferred applicants for Stanford get accepted during the regular round. Last year 3.35% of applicants from the regular decision were accepted.

Stanford knows they’re our first choice, so they know we’re more likely to commit if accepted.

Overall, I think don’t be too hard on ourselves. I believe everything in life happens for a reason. If you get accepted for the regular round, that’s superb! And if you don’t, maybe there are better opportunities awaiting you around the corner.

if you find where you got the stat about deferred applicants, please let me know, my parents are just as curious about it and I want to show them that stat to calm their nerves a little

Is there anything we can do to increase our chances other than filling out the defer update form? Or is the only thing we can do wait?

Have you guys heard anything about sending a letter of continued interest in addition to the defer update form? Not sure if it will come across as too much but I’m meeting with my HS counselor next week to get a second opinion. Also, in terms of awards/honors, any advice? I’m anticipating 2 awards the week after the update form is due?

hey i got deferred too! feeling very conflicted, upset about not being accepted but also pretty proud of not being rejected. just gonna do my best and fill out that form, stanford would be more than a dream

@grinsunflower I have the same question

Deferrals are rare and you all are good candidates. As an interviewer, my sample size of knowledge is pretty small but 2 of my REA rejects are at Harvard.

Stanford reportedly only defers a relatively small percentage of REA applicants, unlike some other schools. So a deferred student does have a decent chance of being admitted during the regular cycle.
My daughter was deferred REA then admitted during the regular cycle last year, it does happen. We found the following video somewhat reassuring: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qtopPJgHXI

But you do still need to do all your other applications, which is the big pain!

Any updates folks.

About a month left!!!

Any fellow Stanford deferrals anxiously waiting & active on instagram, we have an ig groupchat if y’all wanna join! PM me for info, we’re all in this together

Does anyone know what percentage of deferred students ends up on the waitlist (as opposed to straight denied?). Thanks!

Change of heart going to MIT
