Stanford, A Reality? Or just a Dream?

Hey guys, I'm new around here. I am a Senior this year and I am wondering about my chances of being admitted to Stanford next fall. My credentials are as follow:

4.0 GPA

IB Chemistry SL: 5
IB Psych SL: 4

Currently Taking:
IB Math HL II

IB Spanish

National Honor Society, Vice-President

DECA, 1st in State for Quick Serve Restaurant Management, Competed at Internationals.

Face Aids (aids awareness and fund raising club)

Played high school football my Freshman and Sophomore year.

4 time participant at Regional Math Competition representing my school. Qualified 3 years for State Competition, Competed at State 2 years.

Math League Participant, (Monthly math competition between schools)

Have not yet taken my SATs (was busy last few test dates :X) but am signed up to take them in October, and will retake in December if needed. I am predicting a total score of around 2150. (My vocab is a little weak, so I'm going to be cramming this next month.)

There, that's all I can really think of for now. You guys think I should take the SAT Subject tests? I was thinking about doing Math II, Physics, and Chemistry. Let me know what you think.

Thanks A Bunch!

That 4.0 full IB GPA is very impressive. However, your EC's are relatively average and a 2150 is pretty low for Stanford. I'd say Stanford would be an excellent reach school but you'll need to raise your SAT to have a good shot at getting in.

Yea, its time to start studying my butt off for the SATs. The math section is easy as cake. My vocab kinda lacks, I think that will be my biggest downfall.

Oregon? What school do you go to? I am in Oregon and IB diploma candidate as well ;)

To apply for elite colleges, you always have to take the SAT subject tests, at least 2. Some schools require 3. I'd recommend you taking Math level 2 and one of your sciences. Nice resume. I'm sure you have a good chance of getting in if you do well on these upcoming SAT subject tests and SAT reasoning test and your personal essays.

Being a 4.0 IB candidate is very impressive.

Your ECs aren't amazing or memorable, with the exception of Boy Scouts.

As for your SATs, I think they are good enough to get accepted.

^the website lists the SAT/ACT statistics for Stanford.

Okay thanks. I have decided to take the 3 (well maybe not physics, not sure yet) Subject tests in November.

To add on to my EC's, I am in the process of organizing a service project with a local foster home organization. (I already did one for my Eagle Project) Also, I'm going to start volunteering at a food bank through my church.

Looking forward to a really busy Senior Year! haha.

Sorry to double post, but I was wondering if anyone else had any imput. Maybe someone from Stanford have any advice?

Okay I took the practice SAT online from collegeboard.com, Got a 2180 (with two answers wrong due to clicking the bubbles wrong...) So I think that if I keep practicing/studying, i should be able to get to the 2250 range at least.

I'd still like some more people to chance me too.

I'm also looking at MIT, and Oregon State (Which is should pretty much be a shoe in for me...)

Any other colleges to look into? I'm looking at an engineering degree, just not quite sure which one yet.

Thanks!

edit Does anyone know of any free practice SAT material online? I'd really like to be able to take another practice one thats not all the same answers...

you should buy the official collegeboard SAT book. expensive, but a good investment. it has 8 practice tests.

if you find non-collegeboard tests online or in a book, you might not be able to correctly predict your scores.

I don't think stanford requires sat iis but you should prob take two just in case. Right now stanford is in my opinion a good reach for you, unless I missed some important info such as knowing you're urm

You're cutting things A BIT close!!!!!!

And your IB scores are meh. Pull through on those SAT IIs and the SAT I and you will be great!

Okay, I took the SAT, got 650R 780M 640W (Essay: 8) (2070)

Not so grand, but i did re-take it and await my new, hopefully much higher scores on x-mas.

I took 3 SATII's, 800 MathII, 740 Chemistry, 720 Physics.

And yeah, I know those IB scores are a little low, expected it on psychology but thought I would at least get a 6 on chem..

Edit: I am also applying to Cornell now, chance me?

Rejected at both. Your IB scores are pretty low and your SATI is as well.

If you pull off a 2250ish you have slightly better chances.

Good luck :)

lolcats4 was a bit harsh,
Youve definitely got a decent shot at Cornell, and its a reach for Stanford

Hi, I think Stanford is a bit of a reach. If you manage to get over 38 pts for the IB i'd say go get em tiger! Shoot for about 40, if you can do a few more activities or something would be good too.
