Stanford Admissions Chances

Hi! I am currently a high school senior preparing to apply regular decision to Stanford this January. I have wanted to go to Stanford since I was extremely young.

My grade point average is somewhere around a 3.3 but hopefully is going up
My ACT score right now is 27 but I will be taking them again
My SAT Lit score was 610
I played three years of varsity volleyball, had lead roles in three productions at my school, perform in my a capella group, work extensively with a school in South Africa and participated in a conference there, and studied at Brown for a summer before traveling to Scotland to perform in the Fringe festival

My essays are strong (I think) and my recommendations are as well from what I have heard

What are my chances at being accepted to Stanford? And is there anything I can do to increase my chances?

Also, my parents divorced recently attributing to a lot of stress and a decrease in what used to be solid A-'s, should I find a way to incorporate that into my application?

Are you going to take the ACT in February also?

I’m going to be perfectly honest with you. You have an extremely low chance of getting in. Your GPA seems to be extremely low for Stanford standards, and your ACT score is similarly not up to par. What’s your class rank? The rest of your profile is intriguing and I understand how tough your family situation can be, but there are thousands of students who have faced greater hardships and performed at a higher level.

Of course, the only way to get rejected for certain is to not apply. Write the best essays you possibly can. Don’t send that SAT Lit unless you absolutely have to. And finally, cross your fingers and pray to whatever god you may believe in.

I virtually never chance anyone, but this case is clear. You should look for more realistic choices. Sure a super reach is okay one in a while, but I think you are wasting time here (and what does it matter what you wanted to do when you were a little kid? did you want to be a fireman too?) You may be happier at results time if you have some colleges you are excited about that you actually get into.

Admit rate is 7%

ACT mid 50% is 30-34, 83% of student has that, only 17% had 29 or less

The gpa puts you dead in the water
92% were top 10% of class
98% were top 25%

I can see giving an explanation for grades if all semesters are excellent except for one. But I don’t think you can rely on a parent divorce to help you much, if anything. It is, unfortunately, something a lot of kids have to go through.

The Fringe Festival is a cool EC.
