I know that both Stanford and MIT are reaches for just about everyone. I'm mostly doing this chances thread to decide whether I should early into Stanford or MIT. I'm leaning towards MIT (easier for me to get into) even though Stanford is my #1 college choice. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Wow, your school is unbelievable. So you have ~4 Harvards, ~4 MITs, etc.? Given that your dad is a professor at MIT and you have USAMO, MIT looks good. But yeah, other than your awards, you have a weak application. Academics don’t seem to be top notch and leadership is lacking. It seems like your activities are mostly band-related and unless you play for a regional level or higher orchestra, it’s not gonna get much attention. Plus, California, being an highly Asian populated state, you’ll have to face intense competition so odds aren’t looking good. Just go MIT EA and see what happens. Good luck with essays.

What is USAJMO?
