<p>I don't quite understand what qualifies for the section for Academic Honors and Programs. What counts as "academic"? Is this just for National Merit or honor societies? Or does it include awards for things like debate and journalism?</p>

<p>I would put debate and journalism awards under academic honors.</p>
<p>Study-related, as the form says, "List any academic awards or special academic programs (e.g., independent research, science, summer) since the beginning of the tenth grade," giving examples in the parenthetical phrase. Does your debate activity and journalism activity keep you busily learning? If so, you should list AWARDS and PROGRAMS in those categories there, while you list your involvement in general under the next heading, "5. Extracurricular and Personal Activities."</p>
