Stanford Application Q

For the part where they ask for five words that describe you, is "fergalicious" an appropriate word? Please help!

If it expresses your personality, sure. I talked to some people who wrote some crazy stuff.

If one has to google it like me, you have lost half the battle.

This is tough. A lot of the admission officers are young (recent Stanford grads, as a matter of fact), so they may know what it means and its connotations.

But you may always have one of the older admission officers.

According to dictionary.com it isn’t an actual word, so I wouldn’t use it.

I agree with texaspg here…if you are forcing an admissions “reader” to look up something that he or she is not familiar with…you are making them do “extra” work that is unnecessary…the application should be “free flowing”…without cause for a “what?”…think about how you would react if YOU were the reader…

…it doesn’t matter whether they are recent graduates or not reading your file…if texaspg and I both admit we don’t get what “fergalicious” means…there is a problem…

…I would also avoid using any slang, street language, or other adjectives (no matter how cool you think it is) that may appear insensitive to one or several of the potential readers…after all, there are plenty of great proper English words one can use to describe oneself…

…hope this helps.
