What is the typical gpa and sat scores for stanford athletes coming out of high school? How much of a break does stanford give to athletes. Any information or knowledge of this would be appreciated

There is no specific score. Stanford expects you to get in academically and be as competitive as regular applicants. That said, Stanford never specifies a particular SAT score... although almost all students have a 4.0 GPA or very close (unweighted). They look at the applicant as a whole and what is it you excel in and how you can be part of the Stanford community.

Are you a potential recruit? Then the coach should guide you through the process.

Best of Luck.

Our state champion (for wrestling) from our school, who had a 4.0 GPA, had to get a 26 on his ACT or a 1750 on his SAT to get a full ride. He got a 26 on his ACT and a 1760 on his SAT and he just recently signed with Stanford. After he submits his application, he will be attending Stanford in the fall of 2007. Hope this helps.

What state is the wrestler from?

The quarterback of our football team was recruited by Stanford this past year. He had a 26 ACT and a 3.4 gpa, and ended up being the only one of eleven appliants accepted from our school, even though the 10 denied were far more academically qualified.

I think it is clear that if Stanford athletics wants a particular potential recruit (especially for one of the bigger, alumni-popular sports), then that person will most likely get in, even if his/her 'stats' are decent and not the Stanford norm of the very best.

Of course, this particular student is an excellent athlete and should not be looked down upon for having lower than (Stanford)average stats. He clearly deserves his spot in the class of 2010.

NEVADA (10 char)

National Letters of Intent are only signed in November and April-August of 2007, so he couldn't have signed with them yet. And even if he does sign, no one is gauranteed admission. Most recruits don't get in.

I know that stanford has an early read for athletes who are signing early i believe they know really early but maybe not this early.

Messedupmikey- If you don't mind, what his name and what weight class did he wrestle?

Maybe he verbally agreed and is signing later, but he is definately going there (or so the coach has led him to believe). Im not giving his name, but he wrestles like 145s or 152s. I am not sure because I am not much of a wrestling fan.

i believe most recruited athletes at stanford know by october whether or not they have been accepted. (maybe its not an "official" admission, whatever the hell that means... but for all practical purposes they're in)

If you sign early there's usually a better chance you'll get in, but that's for only the top few recruits. Most sign after they're admitted. Either way, they find out at the same times as everyone else.
