Hooks: dad's cancer, low income, mom can't speak English at all so i have to help her (does that count as a hook?).

Thank you so so much!

Your dad’s cancer doesn’t count as a hook, neither does your mom’s language.

ok, i didnt know. ill make sure not to count that then :stuck_out_tongue: but instead, can you chance me…?

um, bump? 10char

Yeah you have a chance. Just make sure your Personal Statement is top-notch.

You have a chance for these schools, however you need to expand the ones that you are looking at. My first question is why aren’t you applying to Cal Poly SLO? This is one of the top computer engineering and computer science schools in California and you can extend that nationally. Cal Poly SLO grads often earn among the highest starting salaries in the industry and tons of top firms recruit there. The advantages for you are: (1) no essay requirements; (2) no SATII requirements; (3) Cal Poly SLO is looking for diversity in two areas: (a) more females in STEM majors especially engineering and computer science and (b) contrary to many top schools in CA they are looking for more ASIANS!

In addition to that, it is obvious that you enjoy hands on projects by your EC’s. Cal Poly SLO is all about learn by doing and hands on projects.

We are Asian mixed and my kid is currently studying MechE at Cal Poly SLO and loves it. In addition to that he turned down the top UC’s and many other schools for Cal Poly SLO’s unique teaching methodology. You owe it to yourself to apply to this school and learn more about it.

Break the mold and check out Cal Poly SLO.

It is also highly ranked in many, many other categories: [Cal Poly: National Honors, Ranking and Recognition - A Constantly Growing List](http://www.calpolynews.calpoly.edu/rankings.html)

Additionally, do not forget UCSD, UCI and Cal Poly Pomona (Kellogg Honors College) for your majors as well. Great schools that offer lots of opportunity.

Yeah, I’m definitely expanding. I was also considering adding Cal Poly SLO to my list. My list is actually quite large as I’m applying through Quest Bridge.

As for chances, how much of a chance do I have? Specifically for UC Berkeley, CMU, and Stanford?

Thanks!

I think you need to drop the competitiveness of your list down a few notches. From my perspective all of your schools are some form of reach (Stanford virtually impossible). Your CR SAT score of 600 is problematic.

well i was hoping my extracurriculars (if you took the time to read them) would make up for my scores/grades…

but ok i can probably only afford uci or ucr anyways.
