good chances! although i don't see anything super-special in your stats, you do seem very well-rounded. Valedictorian, varsity sports, and leadership positions! i suggest you describe your passion about one or two of those activities in the essays.

EDIT: i just saw you have already applied. well then good luck!

4.8 W GPA? How many APs did you take and how were they weighted? Does an A in an AP count as a 5 or 6? The number seems incredibly high, but maybe you just took a slew of them. Kudos to you then.

StressingOut

I have been enrolled in 5 academic classes for both my junior and senior year. 4 of the 5 are weighted and I got As in all of them.

Oh woops, totally misread your post. That's your GPA for 11th and 12th grade. I thought you meant 10th and 11th.

In that case, 4.8 sounds right. Heh, I was at first bewildered by how you could take so many APs during your sophmore year.

4.8 throughout all of high school would have been pretty sweet :)

Yeah, don't fret. APs at my school count as 6. So I have a 5.0. with straight A's. (The APs balance freshman lame classes like gym and keyboarding, plus yearbook staff.)

Viking, I think your chances are good. No, you haven't saved a burning orphange. It just matters how you convey your activities. Some of mine didn't feel that impressive, but what you choose to say about them makes them sound more impressive. For example - my choir. To me, it's choir. But we've also sang at pro-sporting events, Duke Chapel, done a 5-state tour, are doing a broadway play, and working on Handel's Messiah. Not bad.

Jellybean24 - the Messiah rocks. = P I sing it every year. Have you sang and of Mozart's reqium? he rocks. My choir did Kyrie, Sanctus, and several other ones i cant remember... also.. Schubert rocks!

No, we didn't do Mozart. But I really like Bach. We've done Bach. Good old fugues. I really do like choir. There are some really stellar people (this girl who's in national honor choir and gets paid to sing everywhere, etc.) And 3 years ago we did Godspell, which honestly, we had the money, and it was a truly stellar presentation. (I wasn't in it because I'd just started). But it was just a tier below stuff I've seen on Broadway.

haha yeah ive done fugues too. We've also done a LOT of old Negro hymns and such... they're really interesting and kinda cool to sing.

So do we! Go Down Moses... etc. What's that other one. Last last track on the CD. Doesn't help you. But yeah, we've done a lot of diverse stuff. I'm kind of terrible compared to some of the other people in there. (They're all part of this other choir that went to Carnegie Hall last year.) But that's okay. It's quite fun.

hahah yeah my choir is a thing for my music program at UC Berkeley... as part of our full scholarship music lessons and conservatory style learning over the summer on campus, we have to be part of the chorus. I've been doing this for..... 8 years and we do at least 2 or 3 black gospels every year. Its really cool to listen to.. and there definitely is a style to it. Im not very good at singing.. but i love to sing anyways.

Yes, your choir is probably better than mine, at least in name. I'm also a terrible singer. But no one knows that because I'm always making stupid comments about mezzo piano that make me look like I get it. This year (now that our director has returned from England - we've been having a local school chorale director lead us - whose choir was the one that went to Carnegie hall) we're doing Children of Eden.

Poor guy who started this forum. Your chances are good though.

errr.. my choir is filled with half non-vocalists who are doing it because they have to.... but.. jesus.. going to Carnegie Hall is an AMAZING accomplishment...

Ha ha. Well, I didn't sing at Carnegie Hall. My school choir did. But a lot of them are in my other choir. And are amazing. I however ... not so much.

Thoughts on my chances anyone?
