Hardship:
My parents got divorced when i was 8 years old, and ever since then I have had to change schools and states every 6 months. Throughout high school i've gone to 6 different schools (1 online.) During my entire sophomore year, i went through a long and terrible custody battle that eventually ruled in my favor, but not before ruining my relationship with my dad. By the beginning of junior year, my dad finally moved to where i was living from Arkansas (part of the agreement made in court.) So, i had/have to leave my mom's house every other weekend and 2 days every other week to go to his house, which was better than having to move to arkansas every 6 months but still kind of sucks. Anyways, this whole situation was really stressful and i will explain it in my essays.

Here are my schedules:

Freshman: (GPA: 3.8)
1. World history
2. Spanish 1
3. English 9
4. Double honors alg2/trig
5. PE
6. Physical science

Sophomore: (GPA: 3.8)
1st semester (block schedule)-

6. Basketball

Junior: (GPA: 4.0)
1. AP English Language
2. AP US History
3. AP Statistics
4. Honors pre calc
5. Physics
6. Spanish 3

(AP calc AB, AP chemistry, and AP biology over the summer)

Senior year:
1. AP calc BC
2. AP government and politics
3. AP Spanish 450
4. english 12
5. computer science
6. basketball

Your high school schedule- especially sophomore year is way to easy. Colleges want to see that youre taking the hardest classes every year. No chance- sorry.

Stanford: Reach (for everyone)
You have many good things going for you. All you can do is apply and see. Make sure have you several safety and match schools on your list. Good Luck.

I think u have a good shot. Esp. because of all the things that happened outside of school and the apple apps thing (rly cool). Also URM soooo better chance than me lol.

If you read my whole post you would see why i was unable to do anything about sophomore year

I don’t think you would have no chance, simply because of your sophomore year (that was a bit harsh). If you explain your circumstances well (i.e changing schools, etc. - it’s actually very impressive how you managed to do so well despite your situation), colleges can probably see how once you didn’t need to move every 6 months, you took more rigorous classes and did better. If you can show that well in your application, then it’ll drastically improve your chances.

Your ACT and SAT II scores are good and your gpa definitely shows an upward trend (3.92 is impressive anyways). I’m not too sure about your computer science major since you didn’t seem to take courses in that area. I think you have a decent shot, but do remember that for everyone who has a shot, it’s still a crappy shot, so I would still say that it’s a reach (i.e. it’s a reach for everyone except for like if you win Intel and get a IMO gold medal and have perfect grades/SAT/AP/etc. and have like 5 presidents and do 3 sports and 1000 volunteer hours and a successful startup who also has legacy and is a URM and has similar hardships, but no one has all that so…).

You are of hispanic origin but then took 4 years of spanish? Please explain why

I don’t come from a great highschool. Spanish is the only available foreign language at my school. I also don’t know how to speak spanish except for what i learned in school

With your SAT and background you’re very competitive  chance me please ?

Any other comments?

Utilize the additional information section to talk about all the external things that happened to maximize your shot. Stanford is hard to predict, but if you use the additional info section correctly you’re definitely a competitor and should be hopeful to get in.

So what about your parents? My parents got divorced to and i was involved in a long custody batter as well but that didnt affect me… Stop making excuses. Everyone faces hardships in life.

“I had to change schools and states every six months”

Dude you have a great hook, and phenomenal scores. Your ECs are brilliant as well. Although no one is ever a “match” for Stanford, you definitely have a great chance. Good luck!

@austin23 so? If you had time to take art, basketball and foods then you could of had the time to take honor and ap classes.I dont understand what changing schools has anything to do with this. Its not like you were homeless…

@TrynaMakeIt‌
I had to take semester-long classes. What are you not understanding?

First semester i went to a block schedule school, so when i moved i had no classes to carry over to my new school and started all new, semester-long classes

@austin23‌ Unfortunately some people are relentless. My parents also got divorced when I was young. It was a devastating experience for me, and your experience sounds like it was completely overwhelming. The great part about humans is that our genetics are entirely different. We all have individual reactions to certain events.

It sounds like you have fantastic credentials for Stanford, and if you let your personality shine, you may have a pretty good chance of getting in.

I just applied last night, best of luck to you!

@Kicktrades‌
Good luck!

I honestly think that you have a great chance, despite your sophomore year. Your extracurriculars show real interest in your potential major, actually developing apps and working in the industry. Your test scores are also great! And you are an URM! The only thing missing from your app is leadership, but that is understandable given the circumstances of moving to so many different schools. If you explain this in your essay really well, you have a fantastic shot.
