Stanford Class of 2017 RD Discussion

Just gotta say: I really appreciate MIT’s transparency with the admissions process.

It gives me a warm feeling.

Kind of like.

Hot soup.

speaking of soup! how’s the weather where you guys live? It’s pretty nice here in Arizona! Perfect for pants and a light jacket :)

CantConcentrate I couldn’t agree more. I love how MIT does the blogs, they are super helpful. My friend did EA to Stanford, and she was really annoyed with the whole process. TBH I would’ve lost it as well if I had to check the website every freaking day to know if decisions were going to come out that day. I did EA to MIT and they basically walked us anxious applicants through the whole thing. Anyway. I’m from Texas. I think it’s a pretty neutral state (in college admissions, at least) because it’s not overrepresented like CA for Stanford or Massachusetts for ivies but it’s no Wyoming either.

How are you guys passing the time? I should be doing homework but ehhhhh…

unicameral2013, I really couldn’t agree more either. I feel like even other Ivies and MIT are much more accommodating in the admissions process than Stanford is. I get this vibe that Stanford really doesn’t want applicants to bother them at all (i.e. don’t send us any supplemental materials, don’t contact us about this, don’t contact us about that) and their website is pretty bare compared to other colleges out there. I seriously had to Google half the things I needed to know about their admissions process because I feel like their website hides information/is so vague it’s ridiculous. I do like the aesthetically pleasing website though.

When you do end up finding the link to contact them, they are pretty helpful and nice and even transparent, to an extent – I just wish that they were more transparent up front so I didn’t have to e-mail their admissions office so often (I think today marks 3 total since last year; granted, one was because I JUST noticed a stupid omission on my app and just checked to make sure it didn’t matter). I also e-mailed my regional counselor to briefly introduce myself but mainly to ask if there was any way to confirm receipt of additional materials. Woe is me when the e-mail I get from checking my application status says to NOT e-mail to check on additional materials. My reaction? -_-. Oh well. I doubt it’ll end up mattering anyways.

Me…? I’m watching some documentary over beer. I don’t even know…

@Cantconcentrate, heh. Oops. Is Yale still your first choice?

I’m watching a lovely documentary about the making of ■■■■■ 2. If you haven’t seen ■■■■■ 2…GO WATCH IT. It’s by far the best and most beautiful worst movie, ever. wahaha.

AeryGold, my first choice is kind of complicated. It really comes down to how much money I’ll get from financial aid (which probably won’t be enough), so maybe that’s why I’m just kind of chill about all of this. But assuming sufficient financial aid, Yale and Stanford are still tied. I just heard of the ultra rejection rates of Stanford’s SCEA round, and headed to Yale.

“speaking of soup! how’s the weather where you guys live? It’s pretty nice here in Arizona! Perfect for pants and a light jacket”

Yup! Arizona winters are great.

Cantconcentrate, ah. I see, makes sense.
HA. “Ultra rejection rates”. YUP. 6103 REA applicants, 725 accepted, 572 deferred = death.
Well good luck to you for both universities!

It refuses to drop below 40 where I live :frowning: sad. Central Texas winters are oh so short and not very wintery at all.

Where did everyone else apply?

<—Georgetown, Yale/NUS, Harvard, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, & CSULB. (not in any particular order.)

Im doing AP Lang homework right now, I should have done it earlier but eh i’m at least doing it. And Im applying to Cornell, Penn, MIT, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, Stanford and SDSU(accepted :). Oh and University of Arizona, but…that’s just my backup school…(hopefully I won’t have to use it!)

@ AeryGold Haha. I’m in the same boat, except opposite. We get approximately 1 month of true summer up here in WA. Other than that its rain and clouds. California will be soooo nice if I can get into one of those schools in the future. This weather is downright depressing sometimes

@AeryGold. My guess is the 29th. Stanford is pretty good about releasing the Friday before the “official” release date (Dec. 15/April 1)
I’m passing my time with ROBOTICS!!! Any other FRCers here? The gaaaaaame this year… Death…

I was accepted at Yale and a state school. I’m applying to Stanford, Harvard, and Rice (+ Baylor BS/MD)

@surrealpanda, let’s trade? haha. 30 consecutive days of triple digit heat gets a little…melty?

@clairebear, thanks gurl. I’m going to try SO hard not to flip the **** out before that date. lol.

I can’t wait for March, guys.swoon

@litotes, congratulations on your Yale acceptance! That must be nice to know that if you don’t get in anywhere else you can fall back on YALE.

I applied REA to Stanford (now RD), and to Harvard, Brown, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Northeastern, Tulane, UT Austin, University of Michigan

i applied to too many schools lol.

13 total:
in at georgia tech, case western, mit, alabama, and upitt
withdrew my uchicago app
waiting on HYPS, cornell, wustl, university of rochester

congrats on Yale litotes!

Yale? That’s amazing! Congrats! :3

Congrats on MIT , unicameral!!

I literally feel like such a failure compared to you guys! I applied to Stanford, Baylor, UT Austin, and SMU. Buttttt, I already got my dorm at UT, so I’m getting a little excited for the whole college process.

mleahkelsea! I got my dorm at UT already, too! Yayay  Are you in any of the honors colleges?

I applied to 12: Stanford, Harvard, Dartmouth, Yale, MIT, Johns Hopkins, Duke, Northwestern, Washington University in St. Louis, Cal Poly, Rose-Hulman, and my uber-safety state school…
