Stanford Class of 2017 RD Discussion

Hey, people! I was wondering if, for an international student, low income would be considered as a hook in the admissions? (Like 10,000$ income annually)

Hook? no. An income that low actually works against you. Stanford isn’t need-blind for international students, so chances are if they need to help you pay and you are an international student, you’re s.o.l.

My source(s) are recent public statements/predictions by University officials. I wouldn’t expect any press releases confirming the numbers until decision day.

Question. I joined CC just to post this, ha. But, I read over my Common App and I realized for the question that was along the lines of “What matters to you” I wrote a poem. Do you guys take this as a poor decision or a hefty risk that could pay off?

I don’t think the fact you wrote a poem would either help you or hurt you. The issue is whether you clearly expressed what matters to you most, as requested by the prompt.

also, I remember the form cutting off my answer when it was under the character limit. but you probably made sure of that already…

Congrats undercover! I got accepted to Caltech on Saturday as well. Stanford’s still my number one but, honestly, knowing that I was accepted to at least one school really takes the stress off stanford’s decision. If the odds are in our favor we will all see each other at Stanford in the fall (we will need all the luck we can get) :)

when does the decisions come out? has the date been announced?

No date announcement just yet :/

are they doing that same stupid thing where they don’t announce the date until the freaking morning of??

ahaha i guess stanford can do anything it wants, huh?

I decided to apply to Stanford 9 hours before the 2:59 EST deadline. Stanford seems like the best school in the country overall, and I would love to go if given the chance. I got two early writes from two top notch SLACs, which only boasts my hopes that Stanford might understand my intellectual curiosity as well.

how many of you guys have visited?! it’s lovely there <3

I visited when I was 10. The campus did look lovely, but all the buildings were super tall.

have not visited. is it march 29 yet?

I visited over the summer before Junior year and then again for my audition. It simply seems like the perfect place to learn and enjoy four years.

I will be visiting in early April, pending approval that is.

I knew a kid who visited for the first time over spring break of his senior year and got his rejection email in the middle of his campus tour. I keep telling myself that, no matter what happens on the 29th, it can’t be as bad as that.

why the 29th?

Wow… That’s just really bad. Must have put a damper on the rest of his visit…
