yay me too! I’m not applying to Harvard, Yale, or Princeton because they don’t offer a very large financial package. Even if I did end up getting into an Ivy, I would probably just go to a state university because they will may for all, if not most, of the tuition.

Financial aid + somewhat intellectual community >>>>>>>

Still finishing up essays… =p

And of course Stanford is just amazing!!! I really think the environment at Stanford is very welcoming and distinct :)

Very true!

I have a feeling that Stanford is also much more laid back than its counterparts in the East.

But it’s laid back without sacrificing its rigor and, I guess, student drive? I’m not sure how to put that, haha.

Haha yeah it’s hard to put it into words. I think the students have so much passion, that even hard work is enjoyable :)

I’m certainly not full of myself, and I’ve been thinking about it, and I do understand what you guys are saying.

I could retake the SAT Subject Tests in January and self-report the scores so that they get them as early as possible. They’ll just verify them against the real ones. Then I’d call them and ask if they would reevaluate based on my new scores. Simple as that. Stanford even says they will add new scores to our application, but may not have enough time to reevaluate, so what’s the harm in trying?

Harvard openly accepts January scores.

Again, I appreciate it, but you guys haven’t even seen my transcript, my essays…there’s a lot other than the scores that determines these things. And my 710 Math II and 32 ACT will at the very least not make me an auto-reject. I’m going into CompSci, not any of the other sciences.

I truly thank you for the concern, and I am listening. But I decided I was going to do this a long time ago, and I’m going to go through with it. :)

purmou, I admire your courage and dedication. One thing to keep in mind: your plan to retake SAT IIs in January for Stanford will not work. Stanford’s last accepted SAT test date is December. Just because Harvard will accept them through January does not mean Stanford will reciprocate the favor.

Good luck to you.

“If you are taking the January test, you are welcome to send the scores to us, and we will add them to your file. However, we cannot guarantee they will arrive in time to be considered when we evaluate your application.”

I did my research. :P

I stand corrected.

Just realize the risk you are taking, for your own sake. None of us here are trying to discourage you from applying to raise our own chances (we will most likely not be competing directly with you anyways and the chances that we might are microscopic). We are simply cautioning you. If you happen to get rejected (which I cannot predict either way), your chances at Stanford in two years will be less than they are now.

Best of luck to you.

Certainly not–I understand that you guys are worrying for my sake. And I appreciate it. I honestly do. :)

Thanks! Good luck to you and everyone else applying. :)

Thanks purmou, good luck to you too! I think everyone needs some luck to get into Stanford :D

^that smiley face is kinda creepy…

Alright purmou, if you’re really set on this, good luck. Would you mind sharing your sophomore schedule? I know you said you’re taking calc 1…

I’m seriously torn on applying right now, I don’t want to fix my “what matters” essay or do the roommate one… I seriously wish I had visited schools in the summer…

Here are all my classes:

To be honest, purmou’s chances of getting into Stanford are probably about the same as ours:

nearly nonexistent.

I know his chances are mine basically.

well said magentaturtle! On the bright side, if we do get accepted, it will be extremely rewarding :)

Tons of people on this site get worried about their chances, and then over half of them say they were accepted. Evidence is in the results threads of years past. :P
