@detwylder Same here! I’m planning on just going home right after school, so I can check it as soon as it comes out!

There is a roll with a t^.

Today, I just found out that there are 2-3 other people who applied to Stanford REA besides me which is not good news. I feel that I’m already rejected, even though I would do anything to be accepted.

@Hawkace If I understand correctly from my school portal, there are roughly 10-15 people who applied REA at my school. The nerves are really hitting home for me right now… :|

Hi, does anyone know if being a nationally ranked debaters, top 16 in the nation and Tournament of Champions Qualifier, and a publisher of a research paper accepted to an International Conference is going to seriously boost admission chances? I don’t know how seriously Stanford values Speech and Debate

Luckily I was the only one at my school to apply REA that I know of except for one person that got matched to Stanford through Questbridge, most of the school was in shock

I would be very appreciative if Gravitas would give some insight to my question, given your experience

@medadvice
I’m not really sure what you’re asking. Do extracurriculars look good? Sure they do. I doubt Stanford cares what you do as long as you are passionate about it. Now I’m sure certain activities might be more desirable than others (ex. All American athletes, USAMO/IMO qualifiers, Intel, etc) but unless it’s a truly exceptional talent, I would assume they all have equal value.

So to answer your question to the best of my knowledge, having an extracurricular activity helps not matter what it is as long as you show interest in it.

EDIT
Also schools take rankings with a pinch of salt. I know a lot of kids ranked top 5 nationally in sort of obscure areas that get rejected from schools, so even being number 1 won’t guarantee your chances unless it’s something huge.

Guys…if Stanford decides to follow its historic trends…in exactly one week we will all find out…

@medadvice. Stanford looks for a wide variety of “pointed” individuals that have accomplishments in all areas of human endeavor…as I have told you in another thread earlier in the year…outside of being a top nationally-ranked recruited intelligent athlete…being nationally ranked in academic, music, artistic, acting, debating, chess, writing, scientific awards, publications etc gets you “noticed” and may get you over the hump…but, each year we don’t know which combination of top “pointed-specialists” along with some very intelligent “all-around” students are vying for those extremely limited seats at Stanford…

…we don’t know how many others with similar accolades and accomplishments to yours in speech and debating along with having published in a scientific journal will be vying for your allotted “slot”…

…there are only so many slots for debaters, musicians, artists, writers, scientists, computer whizzes, etc…to build a community of students that bring their individual “strengths” and “personalities” and strive for intellectual growth once there…

@detwylder ohmygoodness! 10-15! do you go to a very large school if you dont mind me asking?

Yeah 10-15 is a ton. My class is only about 180 and I’m the only one EAing to Stanford that I know of.

There are 26 students in my school applying REA for Stanford. A tonnnnnnnn.

Are you guys from California or something?

I’m an international student studying here in New England.

That’s crazy! I’m the first student at my school to ever apply to Stanford (or any top tier school for that matter). We’ve never had a student go to a prestigious school. The most prestigious one is Georgia Tech

@Tasmaxxz, wow, that’s crazy. As for my school, there are 2 fellow REA’ers that I’m aware of, but there might be others. I know some people are holding off for RD.

Our school sends a person to Stanford about once very three years. Fingers crossed. :)

BTW, I live in Northwest Indiana (hence the username). I assume you live in Georgia, imagineer10?

I’m the only one applying to Stanford from my school. If I got it, I’d be the first from my school to ever go… This 94.9% rejection rate isn’t looking so cute though.

I know one other person who is applying REA, and my friend who is also in QB ranked Stanford. But there is going to be a lot of people who are going in for RD. But 10-20 something for REA is so scary.

For my high school I believe only two of us applied REA.
The wait for admission decisions is making me so anxious. Even though rejection is highly likely, I’m holding out a sliver of hope until the bitter end.

I think I’m the only one from my class of 564 who applied REA (but not sure about this); also, is it really true that we might get our decisions on Friday? if so, what time? and if not, around what time monday?
