***Stanford Class of 2019 Applicant Discussion***

Does anyone know if there’s an advantage to submitting early? I figured I would just wait for SAT scores to come out because it would be easier.

People on this website say no, but yesterday my counselor said yes it does help. She said that if you get your application in first, they see it before they’re doing any major weeding out so you have a better chance if you send it in when application submitting is first available.

@ellenak96 Yeah, you should probably turn it in early if it’s ready. Stanford requires all scores (You can’t superscore. It sucks, I know. I found out last night when I was trying to send in my highest SAT score) so waiting until you get your scores back isn’t really advantageous. For schools that superscore, definitely, but not for Stanford.

@Sabrina2372‌ I did not take the October SAT, but I’m sure you can still send in your application without the scores. Check Stanford’s admissions website just to make sure

I just applied REA as a Classics major. Their admit rate is frightening.

Is there a way to see what the admissions rate is for an individual major?

I’m not sure @Ellenak96‌ . Maybe @BeachyBunny‌ was referring to the overall admit rate? (Which is indeed scary!) What are you interested in majoring in?

@emenya‌, I’m looking at engineering, probably mechanical.

@Ellenak96‌ I’m applying to mechanical engineering too. I’m applying REA.

Stanford doesn’t make admissions decisions based upon intended major, so no.

So we have three engineering majors, a classics major, two computer science majors, and a mathematics major. Good company lol

I applied early. Put down mathematics, mathematics and computational sciences, and electrical engineering.
That’s my profile.

What do you guys think about my shot?
Good luck to you all. I think Stanford won’t admit by major strictly, but will strike a balance. My guess.

What if I’m still not sure about my intended major? Will I be able to change my first choice major in my second year if I get accepted. Are admission decisions definitely not dependent on intended majors? I’m applying REA and boy am I nervous!

And will they accept my November subject test scores if I rush report them?

@ivyaspirant14‌, I don’t know about the SAT score thing. On the website they say that the last date that they can assure that scores will get there on time was the October date. As far as majors go it really doesn’t matter if you change your mind because everyone is accepted as undecided and then has two years to decide. Unlike other schools you’re not confined to engineering or business or arts and sciences even if that’s originally what you said you were interested in.

any of the musicians here going to All-Nationals next week by any chance?

Yeah @ivyaspirant14‌ completely agree with @Ellenak96‌ about the major thing.

What’s All-Nationals @heldenleben‌ ?

Anyone one here who wants to study in a non-STEM field?

@emenya‌ It’s the national level of ensembles such as orchestra or chorus or band; so Sr. Districts is the lowest level (one per district), then All-States (one per state), and then All-Nationals

Hey guys, I’m from India here. I’ll be applying RD. Good luck to everyone out there!
