***Stanford Class of 2020 Deferred Thread***

If you were one of the 701 deferred restrictive early action applicants, this is the thread for you.

Hi, were now down to 699! SHOW YOURSELVES lol

698

696 :stuck_out_tongue:

695 >:D<

694…

693!

So why do you all think you were deferred?

Possibly because I’m taking two college courses and they want to see if I’ll do well. Too bad I’ll be getting a B in one of them…

What about you?
Also, what are you all planning on doing between now and March?

I too was deferred… going to try very hard to post a good update!

I’m not too sure why I was deferred. I didn’t have much lacking in my “hard” criteria, so it must have been something subjective. And of course their applicant pool is just so strong.

(From anecdotal data and the posts on the accepted thread, they seem to have accepted a lot of legacies and URMs in the REA round?)

I’m a legacy but I have very strong credentials. 35 ACT, 4.6 GPA, cum laude, 5 leadership positions and they are not for joke clubs (haha).

I took hard classes but not unbelievable (just APs and multivariable calc), I had all A’s at the quarter and I sent it in so could it have been they want to see what I actually get?

Gut feeling tells me I just wasn’t good enough and they gave me a courtesy defer for being a legacy… Stanford does that right?

What is your legacy connection?

I don’t think they do courtesy defers for normal legacies- maybe donors though? I hope not- I’m a grad school legacy but my parent has never donated and was a stay at home parent until recently so I hope that the legacy part wasn’t why I was deferred instead of rejected.
I think they want to see if there’ll be someone with a similar profile to me but at a higher level- my big thing is reproductive rights.

@jetynz Since you have high test scores and good ECs, your deferral wasn’t one of the “courtesy” type ones. Those go to people who are not even academically qualified.
Stabford generally wants to see how many students with similar interests as yours apply RD.

692?

@1golfer1 agreed. Anyone here a prospective humanities or social sciences major?

@mountaingoats international relations

@2020visions awesome! Anthro, gender studies, poli sci or art history here.

In the optional update form, would it be appropriate to include if you have new interest in a different major? Would they care? Could it be harmful?
