Freshman year done! How did it go? What have you learned? Any recommendations for sophomore year?
I’m going to reply to my own thread. And if needed, I might reply to my reply with a counter position 
For our son, freshman year was a big success.
Academics. He eased in with 15 units in the first quarter and only a few more in Q2 and Q3. Declared CS major in Q2, but that was a given.
Dorm. Was tentative but has had a great experience. Made friends from places around the world. Participated in many dorm sponsored activities. Diverse environment, lots of help available from dorm mates. Definitely needed a better fan that what we first purchased.
Activities. Started out looking at some tech related clubs, but found that academic demands did not allow enough time to contribute. He did take advantage of several seminars, concerts, swim meets, basketball and football games.
All in all, a nice experience.
