Stanford Class of 2021 Applicant Discussion

With the Common App now open for the next application cycle, I decided to finally stop lurking on CC and make an account so we can get the discussion started! Where is everyone from? What made you want to join the Farm? Are you applying REA or RD?

Hey everybody! I’m a Stanford class of 2020 student, I wanted to let you guys know that you all have my best wishes in this crazy college app process! It’s a difficult time, no doubt. But don’t EVER let the thought of rejection get you down! Be optimistic. My advice is to have fun writing your essay/supplements, and use it as an opportunity to learn more about yourself. Remember that where you get accepted/rejected is NOT a measure of your worth. Just have fun and be open. You’ll get the most out of this process by having fun, trust me.

It’s hard to believe that only a year ago, I was in the same position as you all: an eager yet nervous Stanford applicant reading a discussion thread on CC. Now I’m buying stuff for my dorm. Time flies.

Anyways, if you have questions about the application process, let me know and I’ll answer to the best of my ability!

@Lovemydolphins thanks for the good wishes! I’m really nervous about college admissions right now, especially since this is Stanford :-S

Did you apply REA or RD?

I applied REA, got deferred, and was accepted in the regular decision round

@qsalmurrjoe
I can totally relate. Took me forever to make an account on common app( felt stupid considering it took like 3 minutes)lol. Anyway I’m from Kenya.
What made me want to join the farm? Oh my, let me not even start.
And oh yeah, I’m applying REA. So nervous right now considering I’m an international student seeking full financial aid not to mention, it’s STANFORD.
But I know everything will turn out just fine, no time for negative thoughts.

What about you?
REA or RD?

@Lovemydolphins
THANKYOU for those words of encouragement. The application process is so scary and full of so many uncertainties. But like you said, it’s all about having fun.

Hopefully your experience will help us.

PS…I would so love to be you right now.

@xoxo254 I’m applying REA too! and I’m from California, which has way too many Stanford applicants as is, so I’ve got some stiff competition! But I believe Kenya is an underrepresented country, so that might give you a little boost…

Debating whether to apply REA or RD for Stanford (for early admission, I’m thinking either Stanford or MIT; MIT is far more realistic for me, but Stanford is… Stanford). I’m from California as well, and I highly doubt I’m going to get in simply because everyone else from my school who gets into Stanford is incredibly exceptional in one field (which I am not).

I’m from Arizona and am deciding between REA at Stanford or at Princeton. Will definitely apply to both but can’t decide which to do early. Anyone have advice or insights?

^Well what do you like more?

Hi folks. Another class of 2020er checking in. My Stanford app was the very last one I sent in. It was also the one I had the most fun with. :slight_smile: Have fun, be yourself, don’t overthink. Best of luck!

@qsalmurrjoe Yes hopefully but you know, it’s stanford so nobody is ever quite sure.
Have you done the sat subjects tests?
I know Stanford does not require them but I still think it helps…freaks me out to know I don’t have them.

@xoxo254 I did the subject tests for math level 2 and chemistry

@qsalmurrjoe Nice

Hopefully I’ll see you at the farm. :slight_smile:

If you apply REA, can you take the Oct ACT (even though they say the scores don’t come out till Nov 8th and they can’t guarantee that it will count)? Sept ACT is just too soon to prepare enough… Deadline is Nov 1 for everything but then they say they notify candidates of “missing items” not till Nov 15th, which seems to leave 2 weeks for these ACT scores to arrive and still count…

Yes I would like to know this as well. Although, my June ACT scores came out only two weeks after but I didn’t take writing

are sat subject tests necessary? does anyone know people who have been accepted without them? I know they aren’t required but I’m wondering if it would be a good idea to do some

@memequeen7 subject tests are highly recommended just because they’d set you apart from someone who doesn’t send in subject tests. I’d say they are worth taking but it is possible to get in without them

Hey! I’m from Canada looking to apply REA but looking to take subject tests in October. Would results come out on time?

I think it’s fine as long as you take the test before the application deadline? Scores should come out in time regardless, though, and one or two days late won’t matter much. (I believe that October test scores come out at the end of the month, but I could be wrong.)
