Stanford Class of 2021 Applicant Discussion

@CiteYourSources What do you mean by risk

Also, for those who sent in an additional rec, it doesn’t show up on your portal, right?

@CuriousBobby I think the letters of recommendation are meant to provide them both with proof that you are who you say you are, as well as give them a more rounded view into who you are. While having an additional letter is a plus, it has to be something that will give you an edge, not something generic.

@alr33zy No, it doesn’t

@alr33zy Yeah no, it doesn’t show up on the portal. @vasodys Like did you write about anything kind of eccentric or took a weird point of view in your essays or something along those lines.

@CiteYourSources The way I wrote most of them was like telling a story, but I don’t think it was weird or risky.

I just wrote about my passions in all of my essays. I guessed I kinda tied them story like?

@AznDude525 That’s what I did too, basically.

Welp, QB results come out tomorrow. Might see people posting in results thread tomorrow!

Anyone else applied from UK? I will first in my high school to go to a USA university (all college choices are US) :slight_smile:

Hey, are we allowed to email them updates?? Like if we receive a new award or something. I’m afraid that it’s too late and that they’ve already made a decision about my application. Also, I emailed them like 3 weeks ago to correct some errors on my common app, so idk if they’d get annoyed or not if I sent in another email.

@kbn2015 If it’s something that could make or break your application, I guess you should, but that’s just my opinion

@vasodys Ok, I’ll send it in if I’m lucky enough to even get deferred lol. I’m sure it’ll help my application but I have a similar award so it’s not something that will make or break it I think. Thank you!

@kbn2015 I like to imagine they’ve made the majority of their decisions by this date, and by the time your new award is processed they’d might have already decided…If it isn’t something national or international I wouldn’t bother.

Got a 780 in Math 2, never bothered to retake it, though I always got 800s in practice tests. Does it really make a difference from 800?

@jd2121 - 780 is a great score for Math 2 - despite what the percentile might say.

QB result comes out that early (tomorrow)?

@camar11 Yes, Dec 1 is QB notification day. That’s normal

@vasodys yeah what the other students have said is correct. They released the actual dates a few days before on their twitter and their admission blog. I don’t think the date changes for us but some other schools did push back their release date to like the following Monday for example because they had so many applications. Good luck on the 9th (or whenever it may be!) :slight_smile:
Also I saw your comment about ~1/3 of students being from California–I think that’s the students who accept since Stanford is huge in California…I live 15 min away from there so trust me it’s true. People on the East Coast for example are probably more likely to accept offered for HYP or the Ivies because they have more experience with those schools since they are nearby…same goes for Stanford on the West Coast.
